Just finished Bijo ka Yajuu (Beauty and Beast). I haven't seen much of Matsushima Nanako's work but in this one she was absolutely stunning, even bewitching. Fukuyama Masaharu wasn't bad, but too much of a Kimutaku wannabe for my taste.
Love the rest of the cast, including of course the delectable Shiraishi Miho. Even Mizukawa Asami had a guest role as a cutie-pie newscaster startup in one of the episodes.

I've just rented the Nodame Cantibile dvd because of the rave reviews on this site. It was also ranked no. 1 at the rental shop, Tsutaya, which is equivalent to Blockbuster in the States. So I'm looking forward to watching a great story.
Just for your information, no. 2 was something called suna tokei (hourglass), and no. 3 was Haken no...something or other starring Ryoko Shinohara. Although a lot of copies had been stocked, most were rented out. I think that will be my next drama. It seems to be a drama with Ryoko playing a super-temp worker who doesn't take shit from anyone. Kind of like in Anego. I'm looking forward to this one, too.

There have also been 2 "Bayside Shakedown" movies. Check those out as well. I saw the movie first, then found out about the drama. I guess I always do things backwards.

Oddly, some people who haven't seen it, refuse to watch it because it evolved from a Manga... But a ton of dramas have evolved from Manga, so what's the point?

The first episode of Nodame Cantabile was quite funny. It'll interesting to see what happens between these two. More on the NC thread.
Most dramas are based on mangas including some of the best like Tokyo Love Story. If you're biased against manga stories then you'll miss out on a lot of good ones. Although manga is translated in English as comic books, they're more than what Americans consider comic books. The ones for adults are quite sophisticated and should be considered illustrated novels. I'm reading one about a Japanese electronics company's trials and tribulations in entering the rapidly growing Chinese and Indian markets, including problems in adapting to cultural differences and facing local competitors.
If you're biased against manga stories then you'll miss out on a lot of good ones.

I think some people are also turned off by Nodame's exaggerated slapstick style: Like those old Bug Bunny/Road Runner cartoons... Or The Three Stooges.

Tadaima! Back from my three week break from watching dramas!!!
Since I couldn�Lt find my Shomuni disks , I started Orange Days last night.
I had no expectations whatsover but I watched 8 (!!!!!) episodes in a row and I think I am going to finish this drama tonight!
Even though the synopsis sounded like something I would totally hate, I absolutely love this drama (I even shed one little tear ). Oh and I stayed awake until 3am, which leads me to another thread ...

I love Bugs Bunny, The Road Runner & The Three Stooges.
Chuck Jones was six yards beyond brilliant.
I've gotten through 6 episodes of Nodame. Still don't care for it.
Then again, you mentioned that you're having trouble watching Jikou Keisatsu. Different strokes.
I figure if everyone had a decent sense of humor F Troop would still be on the air.
On topic:
I'm about half way through Watashitachi no Kyokasho and I'm feeling a bit ambivalent about it.
The episodes go by like lightning. I'm always a bit stunned when the credits start to roll.
The ladies, Miho Kanno, Jun Fubaki, and Yoko Maki are doing outstanding work.
But the story is difficult for me to relate to. And Itoh Atsushi as the spineless Temp teacher is really starting to get on my nerves.
I understand the character is written as sort of a milk toast. But Atsushi is once again playing his patented blubbering man child and I've about had it.
I'm gonna be really annoyed if I come away disliking this show because of him. _________________
