I really hope SP will live up to the high expectations I have for it. I just watched Odoru Daisousasen and really enjoyed it, SP seems like it's going to be a throw back to that same classic style of hardboiled police drama. Tsutsumi Shinichi is a big plus to, he is rarely is involved in any bad projects.

Hmmm. SP looks interesting.

Shinichi Tsutsumi and Yoko Maki. And Junichi Okada's done some good work.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.

I liked Okada in Otousan, Sueko Chonan San nin, and Tiger & Dragon, and in Kisarazu Cat's Eye...for coming from a boy band (V6) the guy can actually act!

Yup, I've seen him in those. He usually does a nice job.

But I'll be honest. The selling points for me are gonna be Yoko Maki and Shinichi Tsutsumi

Invariably, when the "star" precedes the drama itself, that usually raises a red flag.

Rina Akiyama stars in 90-second drama series

Wed, September 5, 2007 (2:02pm EDT)
Kei Kurashima's gag manga "24 no Hitomi" is being adapted by TBS as a live-action series. The show will be the network's third "Ippunhan Gekijo" program - each episode lasts only 90 seconds.

Broadcast will begin on October 1, airing late night Mondays through Wednesdays (between 3:00 and 4:00am). The series is scheduled to run for about six months for a total of 80 episodes.

Rina Akiyama plays the starring role of Hitomi-sensei, a young teacher whose constant lies cause trouble around her. The character is a far cry from the admirable teacher in Sakae Tsuboi's 1952 postwar novel "Nijushi no Hitomi" ("Twenty-Four Eyes"), which inspired the title for Kurashima's manga.

The rest of the cast includes Ruito Aoyagi, Toshiya Sakai, Mizuki Sugasawa, Moe Miura, Ai Shinozaki, Yujiro Kazama, and Kazuya Suzuki.

I heard a rumor that there is going to be a drama based on the anime Elfen Lied. Does anyone have any information to verify to falsify this rumor

Tackey to star in "Yukinojo Henge" special

Hideaki Takizawa will star in NHK's New Year jidaigeki special, titled "Yukinojo Henge."

The drama is based on a 1935 film of the same name, but the story is better known by the 1963 remake directed by Kon Ichikawa, also known as "An Actor's Revenge" in the U.S. In the movie, Kazuo Hasegawa stars as Yukinojo Nakamura, an onnagata (one who plays female roles) in a kabuki troupe. When he discovers the man responsible for his parents' death, he plans for revenge with the help of a thief named Yamitaro (also played by Hasegawa).

Takizawa replaces Hasegawa in the dual role of Yukinojo and Yamitaro. He has prior experience in jidaigeki and onnagata roles, but this is his first time doing kabuki.

Other cast members include Erika Toda, Akira Nakao, Shigeru Izumiya, and Saki Takaoka.

Filming begins on the 23rd. NHK will broadcast the drama during Shogatsu Sanganichi (the first three days of the New Year).

Oguri returns for second "Detective Conan" live-action

Last October, Shun Oguri starred in a live-action "Detective Conan" special. Fans asked for more, and now a second drama special is in the works.

The new episode is tentatively titled "Kudo Shinichi no Fukkatsu! Kuro no Soshiki to no Taiketsu." Conan attends a party for the "Miss Japanesque" awards, where he happens to eat a cake that temporarily transforms him back into Shinichi Kudo (Oguri). While there, a murder takes place and he has to solve the case. The special will also feature the first live-action appearance of the Black Organization.

Tomoka Kurokawa and Takanori Jinnai are reprising their roles as Ran and Kogoro Mori.

NTV will air the special during the winter.

Yea, this fall season doesn't look 2 promising. I need a drama that transcends the norm, like Xenos. I am gettin' tired of the cutesy high school outcast drama dorama's. Katagoshi was a step up, but I have hope for Hotaru no Hikari that I am currently watching.

The leaves are turning, which means one thing: a new television season in Japan. This fall contains more for fans of seasoned actors rather than young idols. Among the big names are Takashi Sorimachi, Yukie Nakama, Katsunori Takahashi, Miho Kanno, Tetsuya Takeda, and Norika Fujiwara. There's still plenty from the newer generation, though, with stars like Jin Akanishi, Aya Ueto, Masami Nagasawa, and Keiko Kitagawa gracing the screen. Let's take a look at the complete lineup:

ChocoMimi (`R~~)
TV Tokyo, Monday 5:30pm, premieres October 1
"ChocoMimi" is based on a fashion manga by Konami Sonoda about two schoolmate friends, Choco Sakurai and Mimi Nekota, and their daily lives. Choco and Mimi are played by teen fashion model Yukika Teramoto and AKB48's Kayano Masuyama, respectively.

Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan 2 (󑐂ӂ܂闷)
TBS, Monday 8:00pm, premieres October 8
This is the second season of the heartwarming "Asakusa Fukumaru Ryokan" series that aired during the winter. Toshiyuki Nishida returns as Daikichi Fukumaru, the third-generation owner of a ryokan in Asakusa, Tokyo. The show focuses on his interactions with various guests and neighbors, leading to episodes full of both tears and laughter.
Other Cast: Yuma Ishigaki, Tomoka Kurokawa, Chieko Kuroda, Hana Kino

Galileo (KI)
Fuji TV, Monday 9:00pm, premieres October 15
"Galileo" is an adaptation of the "Tantei Galileo" novel series by Naoki Prize-winning author Keigo Higashino. With the starring role, the ever-popular Masaharu Fukuyama makes his return to the small screen - his last drama was the 2003 "Bijo ka Yajuu" with Nanako Matsushima. Here, Fukuyama plays the mystery-solving physics professor Manabu Yukawa (also known as "Galileo"), whose intelligence and good looks are offset by his eccentric character. He is contrasted by his partner, the rookie detective Kaoru Utsumi (Kou Shibasaki), a character who only appears later in the original novels.
Other Cast: Kazuki Kitamura, Hiroshi Shinagawa, Ikkei Watanabe, Miki Maya
