Alrighty, so my plan to visit Japan in March 2009 is actually 90% on the go. Right now, for 9-10 days, I'm looking at $3200. Is that expensive? Or in ithe right ball park? I wanna know if I'm being ripped off. Here's the Itinerary:

Considering you're going during spring break, it's really cheap. I haven't seen anything below $1800 and that's only for the plane tickets. Since you're going with a group, it's surely cheaper than if you took the package alone.

Am I too late go to your school to join your group? I can skip the math and geography classes, but I could use a few refresher courses of home economics. Sweat Beaten

I haven't check those out in 6 months tho. Probably cheaper now. I know some people who went to South Korea 2 months ago and their tickets were almost $2000.

A one way trip is cheaper tho. Mr Green

That's cheaper. 1 bag of corn (to feed the chicken in the plane), 1 bag of rice (for the movie and headphones), 1 bottle of hair gel - industrial strength (for the great leader), 1 corpse (to make burgers for the population) and one kilo of weapon grade uranium to pay for the trip. Smile

@Wynter: I don't know which agency you inquired at, but if you didn't, try IACE. The Toronto number is (416) 324-9101, http://www.iace-canada.com/ (in Japanese). I'm sure they are able to speak English. They might have better/cheaper tour packages. If I remember more, I'll post them here. Most of the ones I know are based in America.

Right now, airfare from Toronto to Japan can be found for less than $900 CND, 7-day advanced bookings. Honestly, I don't think it will be significantly higher during the spring time. Now for summer....that's a different question.

My ticket was about $1,000 US roundtrip from San Francisco to Tokyo (Narita).

Note that certain seasons such as New Years, Cherry Blossom, and Golden Week are more crowded and hence, more expensive.

Giving serious consideration to going to Tokyo Disney Park & Tokyo Disney Sea for New Year's Eve, since almost everything worth seeing and doing in Tokyo is closed on (12/30 - 1/3). Beaten

For anyone traveling to Japan before the middle of January (2008) and would like to tour Akihabara, there is a free tour available:
http://www.akihabara-tour.com/en/index.htm

The tour lasts two hours and it happens on Saturdays only.

I like Villa Fontaine hotels - I stayed always in the Shiodome branch when in Tokyo
http://www.hvf.jp/eng/index.html

I also recommend Sunrise Tours, a travel service for foreigners travelling in Japan (can be booked only in Japan) - I found it often cheaper than organising trips by myself.
