WOW thats 30.37807 American Doller's, 15.2715 British pounds and 21.1547 Euro's Jeez, is that just record sales?
wait the site say's 34.376 Billion yen, If that's true then its 303. 78071 Dollars, 152.517 million pound, 211.548 million Euro's, er i hate math, i think it might be wrong
3,437,600,000.00 Japanese Yens = 30,130,829.43 U.S. Dollars = 15,194,896.3930 U.K. Pounds = 20,990,570.4057 Euros

If those numbers are correct and if it is billions indeed then we talking about some serious amount of money the record labels are getting (sadly the group itself barely gets anything from these sales).
My guess is these number reflect total sales from CD's, DVD's, Concerts etc.

souka.. wow learning is a lifetime process.. as teskogawa-san told me.. I've learned something new again today..
I Agree.
Coz I'm learning a lot too, just by hanging out in this thread.
Today's special learned subject is: Math and exchange rates.
Oooo.... look at all those numbers.
I seconded Tainted wisdom, I think those numbers represent the total sales of CD, and other things.

I think it's depend on the pre-arrangement contract on how many percent the artist will get (other than copyrights contract). Some get little, some get a lot. That's why a good artist manager is needed!
When they do get a portion of merchandise sales, the record companies get most of the revenue, they have to use the revenue for other costs (recording, sales, production, etc.) while the artist will get the money for themselves.
Well, that's what I learned.
Since I never lurk into oricon, I wonder if you have click the special interview page?

It's a short and interesting interview by Mori Tomoyuki.
Does anybody have it translated somewhere before?

did you tried sub~en~ciel?? anyway sugoi!! that's a large amount of money for the laruku!!!
Okie I'll admit I'm an idiot when it comes to Math's but on the site the decimle point it after the 34. not the 3. so which is it 34. or 3.
actully it's manafactured bands that don't earn anything, signed band's like Laruku are on a totally diffrent contract and earning more than the record company, they will be on a similer contract to U2 or the Rolling stones (only exampl's i can of, sorry)
L'arc en ciel, CD DATA January 2008 Q&A Translation ^^ Enjoy

You mean explain the record contract, well I'll try I'm not an expert, but it work's like this, a Manafactured band, is put together via a record label, like those working for Johnny's entertainment and SM, everything is done for them, they just sing the song's, so all the profits and royalties go to the record label and the writers of the song, same as the name, if a product containing the name Kat-Tun for example is produced, becouse the record label own the band's name, they get all the money the band get nothing. but a band like L'arc en ciel, write all there own song's and music, so they get all the royalties, the record company recieve a percentige for the work they do, unless Laruku have signed over the copyright of there songs to the record label, which is highly doubtful, also they own there own name so any product produced with there name, they get royaltie for also, plus they are paid for TV, radio and magazine aperances, It all depend's on the type of contract they have and who own's the copyright, it's another reason why Laruku only apear on TV shows they want to, becouse they don't have to do what the record company tell's them and why they go on tour when they want to and do solo work when they want to, they are there own boss, the record company just produce the recoed and deal with advertising it,.um I'm not good at explaining
U2 have this kind of contract and from what i have observed with Laruku, they seem to be on a similer kind of deal, the largest percent of the sale's go to the copyright owner ^^
