However, they were too annoyed by the whole thing and found it to be ridiculous that we turned the channel after a while. Ah, those kooky Japanese. hehe

LOL.

I found it to be so lavish (and overproduced) to the point that it was comical... I think they've got to get back to basics and save the glitz for Vegas.

But that's how Kouhaku always is. I'm guessing the men and women try to outdo each other in hopes that it helps them win...and freaks the rest of us out at the same time. Mr Green

Yeah, it is.

Sensory overload.

Don't they use the same tactics to coerce confessions from criminals, spies, etc...? Beaten

Oh come on, don't you know that's a classic film scenario for extracting information from prisoners: sensory deprivation/overload?

And we're off topic. Sweat

Ah, I thought you were talking about cops wearing freaky outfits like the Kouhaku performers to get prisoners to confess. Sweat Beaten

Uh, no.

Of course, I don't know what they do to beat a confession out of someone in Japan.

check the j-ent news thread. she's with that Utahime girl, Saki Aibu. i don't think he wants to waste another 7 years on a relationship so i'm guessing........ Saki Aibu is going to be pregnant in 2008

So far it looks like I've got my best recording yet. I have two more discs to check. Hope I did not jinx them by saying this. I'm way ahead of schedule. But I was unusually organized this year. Preformatting 12 dvd-rws and setting up a timetable for changing. So AD I may have the final product by this weekend. I also checked the size of the Kohakou on daddicts.... I guess it would be ok if you don't care about quality but I don't see how you can compress 5 hours into about 6 GBs and maintain any quality (maybe I read it wrong or there may be more than 2 downloads that I did not find). My final discs will total more than 20 GB.

a 2-pass DiVX/XVid compression should be able to get it down to ~8-10Gb, and still be pretty good. I dont recall too much motion to jack up the size. At least enough to fit on 2 DVD-Rs, of course, that'd take days of processing on my CPU.

I'm estimating close to 5 hours. The actual show was 5 hours and there were not many commercials. There was about a 10 minue newsbreak. So around 4.5 hours for the final edited commercial free product - I use 4.7 GB for one hour or one disc for one hour to maintain the original broadcast quality. DVD-Rs are cheap. Quality is rare.
So 5 discs for the final product is around 20gbs. Sweat
