If a person doesn't have the patience to sit past ten minutes of a drama on two different occasions, it's a lost cause...

I wrote off Sekai no Chuushin... after about 15 minutes... I didn't wanna sit through 11 episodes of depressing, overwhelming sadness...

After watching 1 Litre of tears I wrote off any type of tearjerker...but I just happened to come across Taiyou no Uta and since I loved her performance in 1 Litre of Tears and also since I heard it had good music I couldn't resist.

Its not that much of a tear jerker as 1 Litre of tears just the ending that was a lil sad otherwise I found it a little amusing(the interaction between the male leads was pretty funny).

Oh and I have a question, any other show that is music related (the industry or classical) something similar to NANA the anime/manga?

(I already know about Long Vacation and Taiyou no uta)

As mentioned in the "What Are You Watching?" thread, I'm fresh off of a viewing of Proposal Daisakusen and am craving more of the romantic comedies of this calibur. Any recommendations are heartily welcome!

Kekkon Dekinai Otoko

http://jdorama.com/drama.1021.htm

Easily the best romantic comedy of recent years....

It excels in its subtlety....As I watched it, as an American, I kept wondering if the Japanese audience was also getting the little gestures, the underscored interaction between Abe Hiroshi and Natsukawa Yui...I have to assume they did, probably far more than I did...

Try this: Kimi ga oshietekureta koto NĂꂽ or Hotaru (already mentioned) or Hanayome to Papa or Yonimo Kimyona Monogatari 2006(Okusanya-san) or 2005( Kentaiki tokkouyaku ; Bijokan)....actually a lot more.

I find Nodame very much paced like Yamada Taro Monogatari. ok i survived the first ep. I couldn't survive the fourth......she was a bit too irritating. I am watching just to get the stories behind the famous orchestral pieces. Hotaru is more realistic. i could relate to her very well because i thrived on mess too.

My last Nagase Tomoya's drama was "big money" which i stayed glued until the last scene....will try Utahime again. Victory! Peace!

one pound gospel...........hmmmm, maybe i did too many fast forwards. Nut

i'm a little surprised they didn't continue Yonimo Kimyona Monogatari in 2007 Grumble

Actually it was from this thread that i try Densha Otoko - the movie, after giving up watching the drama (which was a far cry). i liked the movie tremendously. Applaud

I think my next in line is Hotaru no Hikari...I tend to migrate from one show to the next based on actors from the previous series, and it appears a handful from Proposal Daisakusen are in this one.

Hope it's a good one... Fingers crossed

Since I just finished it, I definitely recommend Proposal Daisakusen if you haven't seen it yet. I found it to be quite romantic to say the least, as it has one man 'traveling through time' to try to win the heart of the girl he never could tell his feelings to.

A friend of mine wants to see a tear-jerker romance. I could only think of Itoshi Kimi e, but is there any other suggestions? She already saw Kamisama mou sukoshi dake and loved it.

Tear-jerkers? Do they have to happy endings?

I recommend:
- Byakuyakou: Erm... I also DON'T recommend this one... Sweat

- Ima Ai ni Yukimasu: Although not a pure romance, I thought this drama was beautiful.

- Tokyo Wankei: Not a great drama, but she might like it if she liked Boku dake no Madonna.

- Pride: One of the best romances I've seen.

- Last Christmas: Mebbe?

- Summer Snow

- Beautiful Life

Nope, they can be sad or happy endings. She just wanted to cry.

Thanks for the quick response, Wyn! Big Grin

I don't think Byakuyakou was really a tear-jerker. Just a really fucked-up romance. I don't think she'd be into that at all.

Ima Ai ni...I haven't seen, so I might watch it before deciding.

As for Tokyo Wankei, I prefer letting her watch good dramas because she's not much of a drama fan so I doubt she'd watch just anything.

Pride, I haven't watched either. Is it a tear-jerker though?

Last Christmas...I don't think it's tear-jerking enough.

Summer Snow. I think she might have seen that, but I can't remember since it was aired long ago in Hawaii. I didn't think it was that great, so I forgot all about its cliched depressing ending.

Beautiful Life, I think she saw parts of it when it aired in Hawaii, but didn't finish it. I think that was a very overrated drama and wouldn't recommend at all. :/
