Depends on the anime you like. PlanetES is a drama, first and foremost. If you like watching dramas about everyday normal people trying to live in a new environment, then this is for you. The early episodes are self-contained, but a more overarching storyline picks up in episode 16.

I'd recommend the series if you like serious philosophical themes and a dramatic environment. No real big explosions and fan service, here. I personally like it a lot.
