The 17th Japan Movie Critics Awards were handed out on Thursday. Kiyoshi Sasabe's "Yunagi no Machi, Sakura no Kuni" came out on top as Best Picture, while Kichitaro Negishi won Best Director for "Sidecar ni Inu."

"Crows ZERO" earned a Best Actor prize for Shun Oguri and a Best Supporting Actor for Kyosuke Yabe. Yuko Takeuchi picked up Best Actress ("Sidecar ni Inu"), and Best Supporting Actress awards were given to Hiromi Nagasaku ("Funuke Domo, Kanashimi no Ai wo Misero") and Keiko Takahashi ("Fumiko no Umi").

"Battery" co-stars Kento Hayashi and Kenta Yamada were both named Best New Actor. Mao Sasaki won Best New Actress for her role in "Mari to Koinu no Monogatari."

"Karei Naru Ichizoku" named Drama of the Year

TVnavi magazine published the results of its Drama of the Year 2007 awards, which were chosen through reader voting. The top prize went to last winter's "Karei Naru Ichizoku," which also won the Best Actor title for Takuya Kimura.

Ryoko Shinohara took Best Actress for "Haken no Hinkaku." She won the same award last year for the 2006 series "Unfair."

Shun Oguri ("Hanazakari no Kimitachi e") and Yui Aragaki ("Papa to Musume no Nanokakan") won Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Best Newcomer was given to KAT-TUN's Junnosuke Taguchi ("Hanayome to Papa") and Mikako Tabe ("Yamada Taro Monogatari").

I don't know why they handed the award to Horikita Maki when she didn't portrayed her character that well in Hana Kimi. The end was the only part where she had to cry and that really pulls it off. Overall, Hana Kimi didn't really went well in my opinion, the story was just blah blah blah. I had a real hard time watching it since there weren't really no plot except she's diguising herself as a boy and that's it. They could've went with the manga. Maybe it would've been better.

It's Hana no Ran [A Chaos of Flowers], 1994 NHK Taiga drama series. Ebizo and Matsu only appeared as the leads for the first 5 episodes or so. They played the roles as cousins, fell in love with each other, and got married. Then their roles were resumed with veteran actor and actress as the characters' adult versions. (Ebizo and Matsu are real cousins in real-life, too^^)

i've always wondered if there was like a japanese version of the emmys? i've been doing my own research but i wasn't all that fruitful.
the only ones i've heard about are the nikkan something award and the television academy award?

could anyone direct me to sources explaining what they are and based on what criterias, etc for the awards to be given out? like which ones actually has a jury or which ones are just polls and stuff. and then, there are also those mentioned in above replies which i havn't heard of either. if its not too much of a bother, pls enlighten me.

obviously the fan-voted awards are not reliable at all coz then it's just another popularity contest and the real gems will not be given the recognition they deserve. and then i hear news about pple like akanishi jin and horikita maki winning best actor and actress (from which award show thing, im not sure) and am appalled! no offence. so which kinda awards should we not trust?

im just looking for any awards-y thingys or mag reviews or you know, a japanese emmy or whatever, which you personally feel is credible and all that jazz. im totally into jdoramas now and would love to keep up with the kinds of recognitions my fav dramas and actors are getting so uh, pls to share your knowledge,
