Beaten hehehehe...I'm speechless. It's no comparison to Musashi I guess. Then again, it's a matter of taste. As for me, even if I got bored with some episodes, at least I can get the chance to take a look at the HOT guys Lovey Eyes

Heh. That why I made that post earlier about guy-power... I suppose the same can be said for shows with hot chicks, but that can only take you so far... Even that would get old if the story/plot sucked. hehe

Usotsuki!

You'd watch anything with Ryoko-chan in it. Admit it.

Yes I would, but if the story stunk I wouldn't watch it again (and I haven't). I might jump around to the scenes that she's in, though... Love Revolution is a prime example: Those two cutie-boy leads made watching the series excruciating...

But yes....Shinsengumi DID get a lot of critics from taiga freaks and historical purists!! Sweat I guess, Shinsengumi's target is those audience who usually dont have interest in taiga dramas ne....but nevertheless, it is still a very good drama to me....^-^

Sound like they're trying to appeal to the youth market, and revive an interest in samurai culture... ???

That's why the ratings for Shinsengumi are so high, whereas the ratings for Musashi were only so-so... Musashi didn't have someone from SMAP in their cast. hehe

D'uh..none of them could fit in! I always think Mifune as the right Musashi anyway.

If you ever saw the Musashi series with Yakusho Koji in the lead role, you might reconsider... Of course, Mifune's incredible screen presence is undeniable... Big Grin

Wow! I watched episode 1 earlier today, and episode 2 live tonight (just finished about 5 minutes ago). I actually like it!!!! Smile It does have some funny scenes, but it still has its serious moments, such as when Isami killed that guy, protecting his younger brother. I also like Mitsu -- she's cute!!!! It's the same actress that plays Investigator Mariko.

If you think about it, Toshiie & Matsu also had some funny moments, such as when Matsu tries to use the bow & arrow to impress Toshiie after One (played by my future ex-wife Noriko-chan) nailed a bullseye just earlier. When Toshiee invited Matsu to come along with him, One was mighty pissed, and pouted! LOL! Noriko-chan's sooooooooo cute when she's angry! Smile

Well, I'm editing the episodes, so I might as well watch them, yeah???? Smile

I have Shinsengumi ep 1 saved in my Easynews Zip Manager. I don't care even if I end up not liking it. I will do my best to download as much of it as I can.....because of Katori Shingo. He doesn't do that many dramas lately (with SxS, Tensei Shingo, SmaStation, etc.), and I didn't even THINK he'd be in a historical one. So it's a must watch for me Mr Green

I have to admit. After watching ep 2 this past Tuesday, it IS getting better. (either that, or I'm really bored)

I haven't seen Koji..he's a good actor I like him. I saw him in another samurai flick called "Doraheita" very good one and he was great. Oh, btw,
considering his age..but Koji still looks great.

Download it if you think it's worth downloading. That's the only advice I can give without being biased.

I would say, unless you know the person posting it on Womby's is reliable and likely to post the whole series completely, then you may not want to try it Wink No need to get attached to a series for it not to be complete.

Koji's a terrific actor... Nearly on the same level as Mifune, IMO... He was excellent in Tampopo and Shall We Dance? as well...

Well, my 2 cents worth.

Have watched till epi 41 of Musashi and the first 11 epis of Shinsengumi.

I thought that Musashi was one of the worst Taiga productions over the past decade... would not have lasted till epi 41 if not for Sasaki Koijiro cos i'm a huge Tokio/Mabo fan. My interest died when he died. Bleah

Most Taiga viewers comments online on the Japanese msg boards are not positive either. Common consensus was that Ichikawa Shinnosuke lacked the presence to hold the series together. Furthermore, it did not help his cause when his ex-wife/GF scandal broke in the same year.

Ryoko-chan was very much critised for being too "wooden" by the viewers. I adore Ryoko-chan but can't help but feel that it was a mis-cast... she had great momentum going for her after Seikei Bijin, if she chosen another role in a trendy drama wisely.... she would have a better shot at the chance of being the next drama queen.

FYI, the production team of Musashi also got into trouble cos of the "similarities" between the first episode and Seven Samurai. I have not been tracking the lawsuit so don't know if they had settled it out of court with Akira Kurosawa's widow.

Shinsengumi, on the otherhand is a tad too "humourous" for me. BUT it would give it credit for daring to attempt something different from the usual Taigas. It's perhaps still early days to judge Shinsengumi... if it really flops badly... well.... least they tried to do something different.

Quote:
Have anyone heard? Next year NHK Taiga Drama 2005, will star Hideaki Takizawa, Okada Junichi, Aya Ueto and Ryoko Hirosue.....haha....omoshiroi!!! Its a historical drama about Yoshitsune....who is he? A young samurai who die young? Coz i cannot imagine Takki act a 40 yrs old samurai x)

Next year's Taiga would be Yoshitune... Okada is not involved in. Okada will be involved in another period drama for NHK(i think or was it Fuji). It's not a 49 parter Taiga... rather a 4/5 parter drama special something like Kimura's Chuushingura 1/47 couple of years back.

Brief write-up on who Yoshitune is....
http://www.samurai-archives.com/yoshitsune.html

I'm having high hopes on this cos NHK promised to give its audience the "old-style" back with Yoshitune. The thought of seeing Aya Ueto and Ryoko Hirosue in period customes sounds lovely, don't you think... I only hope that Takki does not come across as more beautiful than the gals. Takki Ganbatte Ne!

Okada will be on Taiga drama next year broadcasted by NHK. His co-star will be Kimura Yoshino and Atsuro Watabe.
