So I finally decided to watch Rainbow Song today.. I'm about 20 minutes in and they're playing Holst's The Planets: Jupiter (you guys were talking about it) - it's killing me that it's a synthesized version. Make sure you fans go check out a real version - this one is lifeless.
It really ripped me out of the movie, actually - it's tragic considering that's when Tomoya's having his big flashback with Aoi and the first time we see who Juri plays (as if I couldn't have guessed based on your previous commentaries ).
But seriously, with such nice filmography so far, it's horrible that they skimped on a licensed recording of the Berlin Philharmonic or the London Symphony Orchestra.
I'll accept that maybe the story tells the reason or explains why it would use a fake analog to such a beautiful piece, but somehow I doubt it. I'll be ready to eat crow if they come up with a clever reason - I sure hope it's directorial decision rather than just being cheap. _________________

So I just finished Rainbow Song. I think that in some ways, I was really a great movie. I think there was perhaps a bit too much emphasis on how terrible Tomoya was treated - I didn't really see a reason for that.

If he had expressed desire to stay because he associated it with Aio, it would have been far more effective, I think.
As far as the synthesized music, having seen the whole thing, there is at least an arguable reason for choosing it. I won't disclose too much for those who haven't seen it yet, but I think what's interesting is that they had to arrange it for the movie - it include 3 or 4 motifs from different movements of the Planets suite.
Not a fantastic movie, but good to watch, a sweet story if a little bumpy in some of the presentation. The opening 1/5th was probably the most awkward part of the movie, in my opinion.
As far as acting goes, most of the characters were quite well done. Juri was lovely and quite well done as always (though I'm starting to feel like she's a little too quick to cry on command) and Hayato was enjoyable too - he was maybe a little less conflicted than I would have hoped - he kinda took everything in stride (if uncomfortably).

The 'new girlfriend' arc was important for his realization about his feeling, but I think it was far too long and detailed to really further the main story and actually drew you out of it but didn't provide appreciable growth in his character in reference to his feelings at the end. It did define the movie as Tomoya's experience, but it still felt unnecessary - he could have just had a little fling and then realized he missed her.
There were a couple of other movie moments where I asked myself: "Why did they dilute the movie with this filler?"
In sum, I'll recommend it to Juri fans as she does some good work and definitely shows a cute as well as a frustrated side. I specifically enjoyed the use of chronological ambiguity as it forces the audience to quickly adapt to what they think is going on without disrupting the flow (most of the time). _________________

The director/consultant of this movie, Iwai Shunji, did the rearrangement himself. I don't know the reason behind this but this part of 'Jupiter' is also used in a hymn, Princess Diana's favourite, the name of which escaped me. Maybe there is a connection somewhere.

Very interesting - I wonder what's going behind the scenes _________________

Hi~ I'm posting for Ueno Juri~ YAY.
First saw her in Nodame Cantabile and I thought she is really cute and funny. Plus, she's sooo skilled in piano~! o_O She became one of my favorites, after that. XD And that's like the only drama of her I watched. LOL.
I wanna watch more of her dramas~ I haven't seen others yet, I will, for sure, some time.

I found Jupiter to be quite effective: it's an emotionally stirring piece.
It's a fabulous piece. I was just horrified when they were using a synthesized version because it's such a rich orchestral piece. In fact, in order to perform, The Planets demand one of the largest orchestral configurations - like 115 members or something and a choir for the last movement too. It's huge! ;-) I also like how they transitioned into Saturn and Venus. I've never heard the different movements pieced together. _________________

Hello bmwracer! and all Juri fan on this thread. I just stumbled across this forum and it seems that this Juri thread is waaaay much more active than the one on d-addicts.
Nonetheless glad to see that it's lively here for our gal Juri.
Oh, and since we're discussing about Rainbow Song , I love the way she dressed in this movie...kinda resembles her style as Ruka on Last Friends. Much of which I like...since someone mentioned that they have the Nodame haircut...I somewhat have the character's closet
I am currently watching Jounetsu Tairiku....any clue or any one who is ambitious enough to sub this?

I wouldn't hold my breath about anyone subbing this... But I think you can get the gist of mostly everything that's going on...
