Yow, bad(?) timing by Takeru, just when Ruka was going to open up to him... Wonder how Episode 7 will open... Or will it be ignored like the kiss at the end of Episode 1?
I suppose it's to further the plot/suspense, but why doesn't Takeru or anyone else report Mr. Nutjob to the police? Does Takeru really think his threat to report Sosuke will phase him at all?
That's such a stale/lame/tired plot point... Everything Mr. Nutjob does is just laborious and rather predictable...

I'm frustrated and sick of it.
Wow! Early this week - I just got the subs, but haven't downloaded the ep yet - waiting for the 720p version... I'll try and chime in tomorrow on my thoughts and impressions.
Tonight was a Daily Show/Colbert Report catch up for the week... but I'll probably start a new series tomorrow _________________

One major flaw in her subs: near the end, she starts subbing not only the dialog, the lyrics from Prisoner of Love... It's hard to differentiate the dialog from the lyrics...

Ahh.. maybe I'll wait for Seri's then, since the 720p ver isn't out yet, from what I can tell. I feel really behind this week though - as there's already been some good analysis posts up
Besides.. I've found that Seri's subs have their flaws too - seems to be a lot of spelling errors and missing little bits here and there. Whatever, I can't complain I'm so happy these people are willing to invest their time to help the community! _________________

Not sure about the missing bits, but the spellchecker in Word takes care of those errors...
I guess i meant wrong word choice, rather than spelling error - the wrong there or things like that. It's never a huge deal, but i do notice. And the quality is generally so high that mistakes pop out more than they might if it was poorly done. _________________

I gotcha... I've seen those as well.
I've could use Word's grammar checker as well, but that would take even longer to proofread.

Eh... in the end, as long as you get the general idea - you can interpret through some strange words contextually. I don't watch J-dramas for poetic language - I have other sources for that! _________________

It varies from drama to drama: for some I go with the flow, for others, it sticks in my craw...

So I finished ep. 6.
I have to say, I'm finding it harder and harder to be excited about this drama. I found the episode to be extremely juvenile. It's like they have this rich opportunity to explore something with the characters and the scenario and it and they only scratch the surface. Like it's designed for kids. Now I find many J-dramas don't dig that deep (or at least not as deep as I'd like - like anime: they touch on something interesting and then they shy away from it), but I guess the other ones I've seen recently have done it much better.
Definitely a big step back from 4 and 5, both of which were very strong episodes. It's also playing the melodramatic card a little hard. Also it's starting to feel a little unfocused - too many discreet story lines only somewhat coming together such that none can be really explored satisfactorily.
On the plus side, the technicals have stayed consistantly pretty good and interesting.

The beginning scenes with Michiru in Sousuke's place actually made me laugh.. the burning of the photos? Come on.
I also am beginning to tire of Ruka. She's starting to get less and less interesting and increasingly predictable and thin - sure, she's conflicted and doesn't understand herself that well - but that is not the job of a main character. Maybe I thought she was the main character... but she's really not. They're setting her more and more to the side as a supporting role. But then in the next scene they're propping her up with lead story scenes - it feels unbalanced.
I thought that the writing for this episode was so awkward and childish at times that finishing it felt laborious. Fortunately, at other times in the ep, it was stronger and more enjoyable..
I think that as the series goes, it's actually Takeru and Eri that are getting my interest. They seem to have a wealth of mysteries and motivations which keep them going as characters and keep me interested. I hope the writers realize that too.
I think they've killed the excitement on the 'hot button' issues though experience fatigue, so they should really focus the balance of the story on developing the richer characters.

Yeah, people in the D-Addicts thread are starting to express some boredom as well.... And yet the producer/director/writer is adding a 12th episode... For what?

I haven't yet, but I see your point... Like all the characters, I think the writers are stretching things out too much for 11/12 episodes... The episodes seem to be comprised of little hints for each and every character and never delving in enough to make it substantial...

Takeru is getting more interesting as his character seems to be stepping to the fore, but I find Eri and Ogurin nothing more than sort of comic relief and fluff to take the edge off of the more serious parts of the story...

This is so random but I thought it's funny anyway.I don't what I was doing when I came across this Britney Spears song.

I must confess that I still believe,
When I'm not with you I lose my mind,
Give me a sign...
So HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME."

A song for Michiru eh?
How about Pat Benatar's Hit Me With Your Best Shot?

Just watched Episode 6 and...
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:
this drama has come to a slow crawl. I feel bad for Takeru though, doing what he can to get Michiru away from Sousuke, going face-to-face with the guy, only to have Michiru and Ruka being uneasy around each other. Not only that, the sister calls, traumatizing the poor guy once again.
It looks like Sousuke is harassing Ruka now with those letters, and just when she was going to open to Takeru about it he decides he needs to confess his feelings first. Still, I think all that harassment will eventually lead her to open up, or something more drastic. Hopefully I won't need another five episodes to get to that point.
Overall, this episode seemed a bit heavy on the melodrama and sappy moments which makes me feel things are slowing down. Not only that, there really wasn't much expansion with the characters. A slow march towards that climax, that death, which probably explains the 12th episode added on. At this rate though, they might need 20 episodes to get anything substantial.

LOL.
Seems like everyone's in agreement on the pacing (or lack of it) in this drama...

The pacing suffers from a lack of development and progression of the characters and story. Well, I'm just stating the obvious at this point. I'm sure we've all seen dramas or movies that start out slow, but pick up as it goes on or provides enough interesting moments sprinkled throughout to keep the viewers engaged, but this drama is just holding itself back by not digging deeper into the characters' backgrounds, and the story gets miminal progress. The problem I think is that the writers are teasing us with these surprising moments, but won't expand on them, or simply drop it altogether. That hurts the pacing of the show, when the interesting moments fade away quickly or gets recycled. I think back of Ruka kissing Michiru at the end of the first episode. Nice way to end the episode and keep viewers interested certainly, but there has been very little follow up. Of course, those DV scenes were surprising at first, but we've seen enough scenes to where it's not shocking anymore but repetitive and exploitive. Heck, I think Ruka's conflict with her gender is getting a bit repetitive. Understandably we wouldn't want so much happening in so few episodes, as it'd be hard to follow and leave little for the end, but the attempts of changing the pace hasn't worked much so this drama is pretty much at flatline with little signs of life.

Yup.
That's pretty much what I said in reply to phlargo's post....
