Of the shows you have, I'd recommend some of the older shows..
.not Good Luck, unless you're going for Kou overkill...
Lunch no Joou for an intro to Yuko Takeuchi...
But seriously, if you have Long Vacation...Welcome to the amazing performance by Yamaguchi Tomoko....this should be your best choice
avoid Proposal Daisakusen....
I have to agree 100% with runpup here. Although I LOVE Ryoko-san and I had a blast with Seikei Bijin, from that particular list you've made, Long Vacation is by far the best choice to go with. SB in a close second.

I know its old but I just finished 3 episodes of
dasho otaka = train man
I was pleasantly surprised the Horikita Maki is part of the show. I bought a lot of copies last Monday so my list of doramas to finish is pretty long! _________________
I got through it pretty quickly... but I think I'll have to go get new batteries for the remote since I've rarely used the FF button as much as I did with this series.
From the hyperbolic acting style, that would have looked more at home in a provincial theater in the 1890s --- to the grating choral music used to give the show a false sense of importance --- this series was dreadful.
And I donft mean it was youfre ordinary, run of the mill, sort of dreadful. This thing was shallow, moronic, inept, pointless, and in the endc insulting.
It was a grand, sweeping, epic sagac written on the fly by someone with the intellect and insight of your average 14 year old.
Looking at the DVDs sitting on my desk I suddenly have an urge to go out and buy a shotgun, so I can do a bit of skeet shooting. _________________
I just finished Karei Naru Ichizoku The Great Family. aka The Grand Tribe.
Man, Geez! I've never read a review of yours that showed this much disgust. Usually you're dead on, so I'm gonna drop this one from my list for the time being. One less Kimura drama I need to watch.
On another note, I completed Shomuni 2. I'm debating on whether I should move straight on to Shomuni 3 or take a breather... _________________

I liked Karei-naru and gave it an 8. I thought it was the one show that Kimutaku was actually ACTING in, instead of just being himself. _________________
Just got through the last three episodes of Aishiteiru To Itte Kure. The two before the finale were emotionally harrowing for me, to say the least.
But I did enjoy it in the sense that it was exactly how I remembered Japanese drama to be. A cast with no throwaways, and small deviations that never tended to distract you enough from the main plot, which was paced very nicely. It was never pretentious or high-concept, but just so well-executed and true to form.

Ditto this. I really liked this drama. Only reason why I gave it a "7" is because shitty subs I had made it a hard drama to get into. Otherwise it would've gotten an "8". _________________

I finished Koshonin last night... I actually watched the last 2 eps back to back, because I was keen to see the end. Although it didn't quite meet my expectations, I quite enjoyed it. One thing I did NOT enjoy was the performance of Shirota Yuu, who looked like a pop star trying to act like a bad/crazy guy.... unsuccessfully. I couldn't help thinking how much better it could have been with a real actor playing the part Yonekura Ryoko-chan was good, although not quite convincing as a tough-girl policewoman - especially if you've seen the other Ryoko-chan (Shinohara) in Unfair. She still looks sensational though
I gave it a 7/10 score.
Next: Continuing Atsu-hime and Churasan.. both long-term projects
I just finished Karei Naru Ichizoku The Great Family. aka The Grand Tribe.
this series was dreadful.

I didn't like this series either.
It tried to be Shakespearean in theme and tone; it unfortunately fell woefully short of accomplishing this.
Takuya Kimura proved once again that he is at best a mediocre actor.
And this series also proved again that even having top-of-the-line actors--in this instance, Kinya Kitaoji, Toshiyuki Nishida, Mieko Harada-- is no guarantee that a dorama will be any good (Geezer--remember Dongame?).
My suggestion--watch Shiroi Kyoto if you want to see a dorama set in contemporary times that successfully elevates itself to Shakespearean heights.
Aibou 3 and 4 tonight (can't remember which episodes). Aibou 4 was awesome--Kameyama was kidnapped by some psycho chick and the reason why he got in that situation was hilarious.

Well what do I know??? but I thought the Grand Tribe was one of Kimu Taku's best non -romantic non-comedy roles. I was riveted... Unlike that disgusting Million stars thing that I stopped watching after 2 epis, this was enthralling for the acting and the history lesson as well.

I liked them both! Definitely liked Million Stars better than Grand Tribe, but, what the hey, if we all liked the same things, it would be a pretty boring world, eh? Here's to diversity!!
