SP was probably the worst thing to happen in the series along with all the DV action!

Not surprising that Juri chan was angry with the production team(although it's just a rumor as of now).

Word.

I think the SP really pissed everyone off (except the Ryo fans, I suppose) and brought about a lot of negative feelings toward the drama.

Hmm.. Wonder if it's true.

I don't mind much, if it is true, that Juri-chan was upset by the way things went, especially if she took the time to talk to people with gender identity disorder to better understand what they go through. If anyone put a lot of effort into something only to find out it didn't matter much to others they'd probably be upset. Could she have found a better way to address her concerns? Certainly. A shouting match with the director and distancing yourself from a fellow actor isn't going to win people over, but that's how people can be at times. Makes her come across as selfish really, but whether that is true or not I'll never know. Just have to address the issue better.

I would hope she understands that if the Sousuke DV scenes was drawing high ratings, as horrible as they were, the director, writers and other producers would keep going to that. If it isn't broke to them, they sure as hell aren't going to fix it, they're going to milk it for all it's worth. Ratings may not be an indicator of quality, but I can only assume ratings means more ad money, more publicity for the creators of the show. I'm sure they'd want to liven up their resumes so they can get a shot at something big next time.

Again, this is all assuming the rumors are true. Regardless, that Juri-chan can get angry isn't a surprise really. I watched enough Nodame Cantabile enough times to know that if you piss her off, she will go after you, and maybe jump kick you from behind Beaten

Yup... I think she'd be really scary in real life if she was pissed. Sweat

I'm a fan of Ryo and was pissed off too. Did the writers think viewers were stupid or something ? I wonder about the movie, but I guess it can't be anything worse

This seems to be the source: Link. If anybody can read Japanese, have at it. Don't know if it's true or gossip, but if it's true I have even less respect for the fangirls than before. Their excuses made me want to punch a kitten. Great acting by by the actor? Maybe he normally does, but none of it was here. When your character is a cardboard stand-in with the mouth cut out, that means there was no acting going on. All you needed was two things for the character of Sousuke: a voice and a slappin' action hand. That's right. Sousuke could have been easily replaced by any action figure from Toys R' US. Love the DV scenes? How many of them would have "loved" those scenes if the actor for Ogurin was playing it? So they decided to take the weakest character and make him the focal point of the series, taking a series with a lot of potential and sinking it..... for good ratings on one episode. Great plan. I hope the have somebody else is doing their financial planning for retirement.

Punch a kitten? Good God you're cruel. Beaten

Seriously though, I have a hard time trying to figure out how any sane person could "love" the DV scenes. Domesic Violence is horrible as it is, and to milk those scenes was really in poor taste.

Word.

Some of the brain-dead comments on that LJ thread merit a Sosuke beatdown. Beaten

I'm tempted to ask them what was so great about the series/Sousuke/DV scenes. Any quality series will have supporters and detractors, but both sides will usually have a valid, though arguable, point. I doubt I'll get any from them but the usual excuses. If they could argue their point, they would have by now.

Right.

If you had facts, they would've been presented at the start... I think the lawyer-guy (phlargo) would agree if he were here and not partying in Mexico somewhere... Mr Green

I will never understand how DV scenes can be seen as great. I learned about DV a bit and had an opportunity to talk to victims so I can imagine how horrible it is. So it makes me sad that I mean mainly girls instead of thinking about how horrible it is are like "kawaii Ryo-sama"etc Shocked Shake Head

I made a comment at that LJ site regarding the source and the person DID have a link to where he/she got that info... Sweat

However, he/she also stated that his/her LJ site was entirely based on rumor and gossip, so he/she's just propagating rumors and related just for conversation purposes... Grumble

I think it's irresponsible, but tabloid magazines do the same and they're rampant throughout the world, so there's not much you can do but ignore that crap until you hear it from a legitimate source.... Sweat

You know, I was thinking about Nagasawa Masami's acting in Last Friends, and how I thought it wasn't exactly up to the standards of the rest of the cast. But I tried to cut her some slack because it must be tough with Ueno Juri and Eita there.

Then I accidentally caught the trailers and several clips of a movie that recently came out in Japan - Kakushi toride no san akunin / The Last Princess. I couldn't stop laughing at Matsumoto Jun's really bad fake facial hair, then lo and behold... Masami shows up! And she has so much more presence as an actress!

Maybe she had less acting competition with Matsumoto as opposed to Juri-chan and Eita... Beaten

Quote:
Which leads me to this: Was the directing for Last Friends extremely inconsistent or something? Sometimes she nailed a scene, sometimes she didn't (and when she didn't, I always thought it was cringe-worthy... they were usually the crying scenes btw). There's lots of hype surrounding her as an actress, but Last Friends is all I have to go by so far.

I'd think if there were inconsistencies, it falls on the director: he should be able to spot it and make the necessary adjustments...

Yeah, I haven't seen much of Masami's work either... She seems more an idol than actress, IMO... Sweat

i agree that she has more presence in kakushi toride but not because of matsujun, but because of her character there, as opposed to michiru in last friends, who is weak-willed, not to mention that she is overshadowed by the strong characters of ruka and takeru.

as for her being an idol, i don't think she is... maybe to people who don't know her work well.... watch crying out love in the center of the world, and you'll see why she became famous. whatever the hype about her now, is probably due to last friends, but only to international fans. that movie earned her recognition as an actress in japan, as it was a box office hit Applaud so to japanese viewers, she's been well-known since the success of that movie. i must say though, having watched a lot of her works, that she is primarily a film actress. she is after all, working for toho...but i believe that some of her best performances aren't well-known to fans, and should also be considered worth your time if you want to see her at her best.

last friends to me, was very promising at the beginning, how ever the script didn't work out well in the middle to the end, so we can't blame the cast for it. let's hope the movie will be better...

Honestly, I really don't expect that to happen: the (bogus) "SP" made sure of that.
