I just finished watching the final episode.Hmmm...For all the anticipating in the past week,I must say that I'm a little disappointed in the ending.

Perhaps its because Tomoo was stabbed by the bespectacled guy and died because of that rather than Serizawa and Tomoo ending everything between themselves.I am,however,very pleased with the way Serizawa's father died because of it similarities with how Tomoo's mother died and the timing of it as well--soon after the brother died.

Overall,I'll give this drama 9/10.I could have been 10/10 if not for the ending.

as for the ending, I'm satisfied it ended like that but i'm not sure at first with the beach scene. However after reading wolfie's take on it i'm totally fine with it. (do visit http://darkeyedwolf.livejournal.com/ . the maou post are just enlightening. hello wolfie you got a fan! )
Since i've been rewatching the climax scene over and over and over again... I'm changing my ratings. Its a 9/10. That scene was perfection.

he had to become the real devil which was created by both Naoto & Naruse. There need to be a third hand of a real evil to end it all. The point of this show is to showcase humanity afterall. Its an almost perfect ending. My perfect ending would be Naoto dead, Naruse survived the stabbing and he will angst some more but Shiori will mend him and they will make psychic midget babies

I agree with you that this show is about humanity but I also find it strange that I felt nothing for the characters;for the pain that they are supposedly going through,their desires for salvation and till the end,their deaths.I felt no connection to the characters at all and all I wanted to see was the next brilliant step in Naruse's plan.I can usually empathise with the characters when I watch dramas but I watched this one with a stone-face and ocassionally with a wry smile when a death is beautifully planned out.I did not shed a tear watching this drama even though so many of you were touched by it.Despite the lack of connection with the characters, I still anticipated most of the episodes eagerly and thought it to be a brilliant drama.Its the first time I've felt like this while watching a drama and it really is weird.

I've thought so. I think its easier for those who have watched the original and those who were watching it 1 episode per week to feel for the characters more. We mulled over the plots and characters while waiting for the next episode in anticipation. This drama lost a lot from being shrink to just 11 episode from its original 20. Every detail has a meaning, the lighting, how the past & present situations paralleled each other, the tarot cards, Faust, Divine Comedy, and every nuances Naruse makes have a deep meaning to the plot. The audience who just went through the series in a go and just watching it to be entertained won't feel it thus the drama will become anime-like. Somehow your preference for Naruse seems similar to my attraction for Kira in Death Note. We want to see him kill.

Maou is just too fast. Some of the meaning they were trying to convey might be lost in its exhilarating pace.

Perhaps its just like what you've said and by the way,I do love Kira too! I've read what the writer to the link you provided wrote and it did enlightened me on some parts of the story like the lighting.Before that,I didn't really thought much about the lighting.I think if I were to be able to really feel for the characters,I should probably not sigh everytime Shiori appears?Afterall,she is suppose to represent the angel.Lol...

And yes,I agree that the pace is a little too frantic and perhaps the changes in the directors didn't help in me feeling for the characters because I did feel something for Naruse and Serizawa in the beginning and without me noticing,this feeling disappeared mid-way through the drama.Probably,if they had taken this series the whole 20 episodes,I might be able to empathise with the characters more but I think I'll need more persuading in terms of Shiori.

I just watched the last two episodes. /cries. That series was amazing, I loved Ohno's acting. I didn't like the church scene in episode 10, that was really corny. But I loved the ending scene. :]

I think Kasai's death was one of the saddest ones (next to the two main characters, of course). Just when he was all happy and about to turn his life around. :/ Even though he had an affair with his friend's wife, he had good character.

what saddens me is as to what happened to Kasai as well, it's just so unfair, damn that Yamano! as well as the fate of the Serizawa family..i still think it's unbelievable that a lot of the characters died within that short time span, it's sort of incomplete, in the story i mean.. im now curious as to what afterimage Shiori had seen upon touching the harmonica..could there be a chance for a SP??

Somethin that's really absurd in the final ep. for me is the stab Naruse got from Yamano. It's really ridiculous! How can he walk around the streets with blood on his shirt?! How come no one noticed it ?
