Hehe.. actually watched the first episode tonight. I'm flying back up to Seattle tomorrow and I'll be moving up to Seattle this weekend (i found someone renting a room) so I'll probably not have much time to watch more until next week... but I'm looking forward to it. It's been a crazy month.

It's been nearly two weeks... Did you finish?

I watched the series both anime and drama. Though the anime is having more details, I still prefer to watch the drama. Maybe because I can see real people play on music.

Lol, just to make my students (elementary) like music at school (and because i want to divide them into group like in 'orke-'), i played one series of Nodame. In the end they keep questioned: "So who's win? A Orchestra or S?" Big Grin

I must thankful the people behind Nodame Cantabile for this reason Big Grin

That's nice! A very fun way to introduce students to music. Nodame Cantabile really got me into classical music, and hopefully your students will enjoy the music as well. Victory! Peace!

Thank you! w00t!
actually, both Nodame Cantabile and La Corda D'Oro (anime) drive me back into music again. I gave-up my piano course a decade ago since I didn't enjoy it too much (no appropriate music theory, so i never understand about classic and the interpretation of music), now I take violin course. it's also to help me understand what to do at that school since their major is violin.

What's make me relieved is that at least many of them now show interest to practice more. I think they enjoy having more responsibility (since I divide them into groups and having their leaders, including... ConcertMaster). Once the CM told me that she is now enjoy music class. (Music class wasn't my main class. I only helped the violin teacher)

Nodame Cantabile doesn't only change my life, but also my student's attitude. It's the first drama/anime/manga that gives me so much basic info about orchestra. It opens my way and my thought about music. I respect Nodame Cantabile more than other musical drama (like Beethoven Virus, a K-drama) for its detail info. For some reason, I think, it will be hard for any other production to achieve the same quality educational info as in Nodame Cantabile. Smile

ashamed I actually have only had time to finish that one episode. I'm not used to having a roommate who expects me to spend time with her... I wonder how long I'll be able to stand that ;-) Though actually, she's really nice and we get along very well - I just find I enjoy more time alone than I've been getting recently.

Also, because I'm living closer to work I have been.. working more. I don't know what's going on in my life right now, but it sure is busy - I'm still getting things back in order.

I did, however, do a little skip through to a few favorite bits last night before sleepytime. I guess I'm just generally on a little Japanese hiatus right now - since I started the new job, I haven't been able to study and I feel like I always have tons to do and no time to do it.

While I'm not certain if I will ever learn to play an instrument, Nodame Cantabile can certainly given me a better appreciation and understanding for the classical music that I listen to. I've heard about La Corda D'Oro but have yet to watch it, so I'll look into it.

It sounds like your plan for the students is working out well so far, with the students showing more interest in practicing. I think it's a great idea for you to give your students some responsibilities, and even better to hear they seem to enjoy it.

Nodame Cantabile was the first series that gave me some basic info about classical music as well, and also gave me a way to listen to classical music better. Personally, no other music-related drama will top it primarily because it was my first one, and most enjoyable. The pieces chosen for the series were great, helping to convey the emotions of Chiaki, Nodame and the others, helping to tell the story.

Keep us updated with your students! Victory! Peace!

Nodame Cantabile had a perfect portion for educational info and love story. The love story didn't take too much part of the entire story until nearly end of episodes and that's good. It won't distract the story.

To compare with Beethoven Virus, where the focus are strings, trumpet, and orchestration; I only get very few info about the instruments. The orchestration (conductor's way of handling an orchestra) is much clearer than watching Nodame Cantabile. Though, i still feel weird that a very pro conductor like him still use a very basic hand signs to performed (though I researched that it's how a conductor should do). Compared to Chiaki or his teacher who already used very complicated signs. But again, Beethoven Virus has given basic info about how to conduct an orchestra. What bothering me is the fact that too many supporting casts take roles. So the love story took so much portion (and i'm tired seeing guys crying), yet, it has too many 'jumping plot', IMHO.

If only Beethoven Virus could put a focus, it might be able to achieve much better appreciation.

In La Corda D'Oro, you will be introduced to such instruments like violin, cello, trumpet, and flute. You'll also will be given a pretty clear 'definition' of 'concours'. It will reveal (mostly about violin) you the history, the how-to-play, and of course how to appreciate/understanding/interpret the music. You will enjoy many classic sounds for solo, duet, and quartet. I actually hope to see the j-drama version of this manga/anime. It's worth to see. I highly recommend it Smile

I heard about it but i don't think ever watched it.
For western production, I actually really wish to watch Mr. Holland's Opus.
There was also a movie I watched, It's about violin (Meryl Streeps took part also) but I don't remember the title. It's a good movie.

lol, r u still a mozart freak? Big Grin

Nodame is an extremely well-made drama: it's production values and attention to detail is better than anything I've seen up to now.... Quality from top to bottom. Victory! Peace!

Heh.. not that kind of roommate. She's more than 30 years older than me. On the plus side, she does have a cute daughter she might try and hook me up with.

I was kinda holding out for Juri, though ;-)
