Saw a little bit of Rookies on digital 18.1 today.... bleh

Yet another re-dumb-dant plot about a bunch of misfit students, this time on a baseball team... Shake Head

These types of dramas must be Japan's equivalent to America's reality TV infestation...

I just finished this yesterday as well, but unlike you I wasn't very impressed. I was expecting to like it because silly mid-90s sci-fi and mystery doramas are usually a huge guilty pleasure of mine. But I ended up with too many issues with the characters and the cases that I was just plain not enjoying it by the end. Sweat

Also watched episode 8 of Konna Koi no Hanashi, which on the other hand I am enjoying. Victory! Peace!

I really enjoyed Utahime. Have fun.

I just finished Kudo Kankuro's Manhattan Love Story

http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Manhattan_Love_Story

Just a blast. Pure fun. A farce that moves at 100 miles per hour, complete with a terrific cast from top to bottom.

I like the first episode of Utahime. The rest looked a bit like a stretched out filmed stage play. Maybe because it was orginally written as a stage play.

I wasn't totally impressed by this drama, but I liked it a lot than I thought it would. The characters had a lot of flaws and if I didn't enjoy the cases, I'd probably give this drama a 7 or so (Right now I have it as a "9" but I gotta change my score to an 8/10 instead).

Interesting, I didn't realise it orginated from a stage play. I know what you mean about the style, often it was directed to look, and even sound like, a stage play which just happened to be filmed.

On topic:

I'm now up to the 7th episode of Ame to Yume no Ato ni. After the first 4 or so I was ready to dismiss it as another failed j-drama attempt at a sci-fi show, such as the mediocre Nanase Futatabi or the utterly terrible Long Love Letter, but I'm glad I kept watching. The 5th and 6th episodes where great, and the 7th even better, the supernatural element really worked and it was suitably creepy. On the whole it's at it's best when it concentrates on the relationship between the father and his daughter.

I'm also watching Ikebukuro West Gate Park, again I almost gave up on this as after the first episode I don't think I liked any of the characters. But it grew on me, and now I'm loving it. It's rather dark and it can turn from comedy to bloody violence in a blink of an eye and it deals with subjects of a more adult nature than most other j-dramas. I've only just realised that Nagase Tomoya and Sato Ryuta were both in Utahime, I didn't recognise either of them.

I agree on all accounts. I felt the same way at the beginning, and then eventually really fell for it. I aboslutely LUFF "the king". Prolly one of the best characters I've seen in a drama.

Still on Atsu-hime epi 14. I keep falling asleep! Not because it's boring, but because I have the habit of watching late at night, when I should be sleeping. Nut

Ep 2 of Atsu hime.

THe certainly is a different feel to it than the previous Taigas Ive seen. But the costumes and locations are quite nice. I havent seen enough for a critque.

Fitting in a silly ep of the Tiawanese drama Romantic Princess for contrast. hehe

That's the only part thats got me a little worried, the casting of Sato as a yakuza. He usually plays happy-go-lucky types. I don't know if he can pull this off or not.
