Hey Kirei.

I don't know what you mean by study guitar rapidly, cuse after like 6 months of learning I really slacked off for like 3 months where I never even looked at my guitar Sad I need to get better fast no though since I want to perform soon Big Grin I seriously need a new guitar soon tho. I'm getting a standard Fender Stratocastor with the colors Ken had in the stay away video (or just a red guitar). My band doesn't have a name yet and I'm glad since ones they came up with so far are pretty stupid. We don't really play L'arc stuff...I just use l'arc stuff as warm up until we play other stuff. The second guitarist is gone now (YYYYYAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY....he was such a pain) so right now I'm stuck mainly playing Nirvana, Incubus, RHCP, and stuff I wrote. Occassionally we just jam together and that's when I play L'arc stuff which has only one guitar or I just play the guitar part. I've played Niji, Honey, Heaven's Drive, Metropolis, and Bravery during jam sessions, but we don't really plan on performing these songs.

Hey!

This is my first post...I don't know if there's any other New Zealanders here but it'd really rock if there are - I love L'Arc and especially all the way down here it's almost impossible to find people who know what the hell I'm on about Rolling eyes

Anyways, I'm trying to put together a band, play some L'Arc or Glay covers early on and eventually move on to originals written with the same feel and style as L'Arc en Ciel; especially in terms of their diversity. I can play guitar competantly though I am primarily a vocalist - I'm 17 and I've been singing since I was 4 months old or whatever. I can do all that can be done by Hyde vocally - I can hit the high C in full voice like Hyde in 'finale~' as well as hit and hold the high B in full voice [without falsetto] in 'Love Flies.' I have been told I sing with a similar 'feel' to Hyde, but obviously our voices are not exactly the same. I play guitar fundamentally in order to write songs.

At the moment, the 'band' consists of just me and a friend who plays guitar and is classically trained. He is far more talented than me musically - I think he is a genius musically - he can improvise in the truest sense of the word - NOT as in be told a key and then just play scales in that key but actually listen to a song for the first time, have a guitar in his hand and IMPROVISE with no real structure in terms of scale or chord. Having said that, we are looking for a LEAD GUITARIST - my friend is more interested in progressions and melody than solos. Furthermore, any bassists and drummers out there who live in the Auckland area would be great.

I know my odds for finding people here aren't spectacular but I've tried most everything else to no avail - I can't stand 'western' rock with their melodramatic self-important self-pitying self-pious themes and teen angst - it bores me. I love the happier, upbeat feel of J-Rock, [of course Laruku] songs such as STAY AWAY and DIVE TO BLUE, but this is not to say I am not touched or enjoy emotional gems - just not angry teen angst that has no real emotional value.

I loved some of the songs in 666 - particularly PRAYER and SHINING OVER YOU, and some of the angrier stuff was pretty cool too. For those of you looking for bands similar to Laruku, try Glay, as some have already said, as well as a little known Japanese Band 'Transtic Nerve'. The vocalist, Taka, sounds so much like Hyde it is eerie - the first time I heard Transtic Nerve, I honestly thought Hyde had run off and sang for some other random band. ^^"

Anyways, this has ended up WAY longer than I expected - but if nothing else - a Lead Guitarist, a kick ass Bassist and non-drug trafficking drummer are needed to take over the world.

Thanks.

All the Love~

Lestadt

Hi Lestadt.

From what I've heard your band kicks my band's ass....lol. I wish I could sing, but I usually end up sounding like Kurt Cobain. I can imporvise, but sounds like your friend's better too. How long has he been playing? Anyays, my friends still keep commenting on how my song writing skills still seem very Nirvana-like and not very L'arc like at all, so from now on I guess I should just stick to that style until solo time where I'll try my hardest to play like Ken. Anyways, Lestadt, can your guitarist give me any tips on just some general guitar playing, what mistakes he's made and had to learn from, and besides practise and technique if there's a way to speed up my playing.

Actually - I'm a big fan of Nirvana too; just the amount of raw passion Kurt Cobain put into his songs and the fact that he had a very beautiful way of viewing the world.

Umm...tips for increasing speed or soloing - e-mail [email protected]. He's not the guitarist I was talking about, but someone else I've played with in the past who is an INSANE guitarist and can play most of Ken's parts and is a huge X Japan fan - can play the crazy solos in 'Endless Rain' and 'Silent Jealousy' etc.

Good luck!

All the love~

In general, do you guys prefer Hyde's 'rockier' voice, such as in 'READY STEADY GO' and most of his 666 album, or his more tender, melodic voice, such as in 'hitomi', 'pieces', and 'winterfall'?

Ya Kurt's raw emotion is really good. I can never get the "Steaming soup begins to melt" part to You know your right to sound exactly like Kurt. Thanx for the link Lestadt. Hmmm...I think I prefer his voice where it's lighter, but not completely too light like in Stay Away and Bravery where it's light but still edgey.

it depends... i like his rockier voice, because i love shout at the devil, revelation and his 666 album and stuff. but i love his "tender, melodic" voice too, because hitomi no jyuunin and pieces are some of my favorite songs...

...so yeah. =D
