I'm trying to track down all the different TV stations where you can watch Japanese Television in the US. If you live someplace where Japanese television is broadcast, write down the state, channel, cable/satellite/ant!

In DC, VA, MD: WNVC Channel 56 - Japan News @ 9:00 AM EST

On DishNetworks Satelite TV (paid Satellite Dish)
International Package, Anywhere in the US
640 TVJPN: Japan TV, 641 JNGFA, and 688 JETTV (shows a lot of dramas I hear)

Post more!

Joe

in the NY and NJ area, WNYE has an hour long Japanese segment that shows one dorama (Watashi no Aozora) and usually 2 Japan info topics. 11:00 PM on Sundays! =]

In Hawai'i (yeah, THE ENTIRE ARCHAPELAGO -- used to just be for the island of Oahu; now, KIKU-TV has expanded to all the islands! Hoo-ray for technology, yeah?), the free channel (even available if you still got antennae TV, even), is KIKU-TV:

Antennae: Ch. 20
[Oceanic] Cable: Ch. 9
[Oceanic] DIGITAL cable: Ch. 89
Uh . . . add'l. info' can be found at www.kikutv.com

The majority of KIKU-TV's programming are Japanese shows (nighttime, during the workweek, all Japanese shows).

The site has a message board too (revamp, rev . . . ah, forget it). The Man (heh, me), Ahochaude (starring as a different "Aho" name over there; you'll see it), Groink, and other Hawai'i kama aina and folks from all other places post o'there at that 'site. Come join in!

I think NGN (Nippon Golden Network) is still based in Honolulu. I'll let ya'll's look that one up.

K-den.

Yeah, Kiku TV's message board system sucks.

NGN is still based in Hawaii. But the network sucks (IMO).

In The San Francisco Bay Area, KTSF is the home of Japanese TV drama.

The station is mostly Chinese and Korean shows during the week. But on Sat. and Sun. evenings, they show Japanese TV.

The shows are selected and provided by a Japanese distributer located in N.Y.

Then on DIgital cable there's The International Channel which shows one hour long Fuji Drama per week, along with Hey Hey Hey and J=Pop TV.

And on a side note, the Independant Film Channel (also digital cable) loves to show Japanese movies.

Hawaii has three NGN stations:

NGN - All Japanese programming, no subtitles.
NGN2 - About the same as NGN, I think.
NGN3 - All Japanese movies with subtitles, subs by NGN. They show the same series of four movies back-to-back during a 7-day period. No commercials.

All of these channels are pay-channels. And I think for NGN2 and NGN3, you have to be a digital cable subscriber.

Every now and then, NGN offers free-preview days. During that period, I try to capture all the English subbed movies they show.

From my experiences working with TV stations... Submissions to the TV-guide companies by the TV stations are done up to two months in advance. During that 2-month window, anything can happen. Affiliation with a parent network can be revoked, someone dies, business partnerships are affected, public opinion is interjected (in the case of the Ronald Reagen TV movie on CBS), and much more.

For example, earlier this year KIKU-TV announced that they were going to re-air the entire Otousan (Life with Dad) series. And, it did show up in the various TV guides. However, that announcement was made before the KIKU-TV/JNP fiasco. After that, KIKU-TV had to change their programming schedule to reflect the changes in the two companies' business relationships.

So I wouldn't rely on the on-line TV guides. They may be accurate 98-percent of the time, but even 2-percent inaccuracies in the TV guide business can cause the reliability of these services to deminish.

My tip: Just go straight to the source! In the case of KIKU-TV, I monitor their schedules literally on a daily basis. Before I set my capturing PCs, I always check with their guide. I've also heard that KFBD-TV (the Korean station in Hawaii) is very unreliable as far as their programming schedule is concerned.

and JNGFA on Dish Network?

They seem to be identical, except that JNGFA is free......??????

You can thank me later, but don't blame me for any addictions this might cause:

KeyHoleTV

This is only for Windows and Mobile Windows.

Directly, no. But I've used a screen grabber to capture the feeds. It's ghetto, but functional.

Keep in mind that picture quality is not the focus of this project.

From what I've gathered, it's a project from one of the Ministry agencies in Japan. It uses P2P technology to transmit the video feeds. But I'm not so certain since the video quality isn't that great. The problem is that the channels are displayed by the city the studio is located in and in Japanese. For example, Fuji-TV is listed as "Odaiba" (in katakana: I_Co). I think Fuji-tv, NTV, TV Asahi is included. There are more channels available.
