A little Tokyo postmortem
The 8 days in Tokyo were lovely - I was a bit worried because we travelled during Golden Week and every guidebook out there recommends to avoid GW. But fear not, apart from the Government building in Shinjuku being closed, it was absolutely fine. On the contrary, there were lots of local activities in Ueno, Ikebukuro and around the Meiji Shrine.
We stayed in the Sunroute Plaza in Shinjuku, tiny rooms but rather good value for money. Perfect location as well, on the Shinjuku Southern Terasse, one minute walk to the underground, and close to the Krispy Kreme (Takoyama posted some pics a while ago I believe) .
My sister adored Tokyo but didn't appreciate two things - people being afraid of her and her tiny cold and the fact that people sometimes secretly took pictures of us with their mobile phones. Oh and Matsumoto Jun - coming out of the shower one morning I found her watching TV with disgust, commenting on impossible bad acting, I had a closer look and it turned out she was watching a crying scene with MatsuJun in SMILE. It's not us being biased because he's JE.
We took hundreds of pictures but not sure I want to post them because most feature us eating or drinking something

haha initially i read it as "matsujun - coming out of the bath" and i thought how come you could have seen that? =p the swine flu's that bad hur... =(
no no no the horror.
I might want to add that my sister has never ever seen a j-drama in her life. And after her 5min watch of SMILE while waiting for me, she probably never will.

It is a line from the movie "Lost in Translation" that Bill Murray's character spoke in a Suntory commercial in a smooth voice. Why it is in this thread, well your guess is as good as mine. We have a Beverage thread. Now back to topics of earthquakes, traveling to Japan and such.

Hey guys,
Flying to Japan this aug and I'm really in need of a digicam. I've been thinking of buying one in akihabara or in some high tech store in osaka, because I assume they would be cheaper and better there than the ones I get here in Austria, but then I won't have any garantee when it breaks. What do you guys think, should I purchase one here before leaving or there? and do you think Austrian hi-tech stores will be willing to fix my japanese camera when it breaks? Thanks in advance~

I know you can get a discount at Yodobashi Camera in Akiba if you show them your passport. Plus you get super cool points for actually buying something from Electronic Town. Sorry I wouldn't know anything about any warranties for people on holiday. What kind of camera you looking at purchasing?

Since I didn't find anything under 'drama loction' with the search option, so I'm gonna post my request here...
I'm flying to Japan this summer and remembered yesterday that I once had the link to this awesome homepage where all/most of the loctions of Japanese doramas were written down, sorted by actor and dorama and so on. And I remember it was in Japanese.
Can anyone help me and post the link here? Thanks in advance ^^v

haha super cool points as in imaginary I'm-so-cool points? XD Well, I don't have a certain brand or model I want to purchase. Currently I'm looking in all the local newspapers for digicamera advertisments and make a good friend of mine check if they're any good.
Thanks for the hint with Yodobashi Camera, in case I don't find anything useful here, I'll go there and get one at that store with my passport and just pray that it holds for many years to come. XD

I think this can be categorized with the "I'm going to Japan" thread.

Since you're headed to the Kansai area, you can actually 'haggle' with the store clerks in terms of pricing. Not too aggressively, however you can bring up the topic of a discount and more than likely it will be taken into consideration, and you should receive a counter.
I bought my digi cam from Japan back in '06. Haggled and got the price down from $400USD to about a little over $300USD with the memory card included. I was in Kobe. _________________
