I'm still trying to blot out of my mind the scene where she's wearing the dress and the crucifix. Shocked

Wow, one month already and no commentary. Sunk to the third page.

Is this a new low in NHK Taiga Dorama?

Not really. And the bad part of her scenes is a bit overplayed by people here. She basically makes a cameo every 2 episodes or so... just often enough to keep her fans coming back.

And though it's a historically "wtf?" character... it's at least more entertaining than watching Tsumabuki Satoshi cry his way through yet another episode. Even after Kanetsugu promised not to... the screenwriters must have decided it was the only thing Tsumabuki could do convincingly.
Meanwhile, Takashima Masanobu seems to be practicing for a stare competition... I bet he could even beat the master chef from Antique.

I don't know if it's good or bad that my favorite part of the show is NHKs' intro and epilogue narrations. I find myself wanting to take advantage of the Rail Pass now.
Overall it's not bad... but I do find the crying and staring starting to grow old.

I guess they did a lot of staring and crying back then.

I have to admit I keep tuning in, and I still look forward to it each week... so it must not be too bad.
I'd pay good money for a Taiga on Kenshin with Abe starring though...

Ideal taiga dorama? Which period or characters would you like?

Has NHK done a "taiga" version of 47 Ronin? Probably, ne.
Nanboku-chō?
Kenmu restoration? Smile

Depictions of 47 ronin by NHK taiga dramas:
Ako Roshi (1962)
Genroku Ryoran (1999)

Of course, I should have remembered those.

The "Northern Court, Southern Court" must have lots of "story possibilities" (read: staring and crying). Mr Green

The cast is pretty good especially if Abe Hiroshi is main charracter as Uesugi Kenshin and if it's the yaoi taiga version. Mr Green

I haven't noticed any yaoi or shudo references in this show. Although I haven't been looking very carefully.

Don't know if this was already covered, but I think it's a reference to the real Naughty relationship between Kenshin and Kanetsugu -- which NHK conveniently left out.
