Arashi member Masaki Aiba (26) is set to take on his first lead role in a drama series this fall. He will star in TV Asahi's "My Girl," his first series since "Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru" in 2003.
Aiba, who is more known for appearing in variety shows than in dramas, said that he wants to show his fans a "completely different Masaki Aiba" from his usual self.
"My Girl" is based on a manga by Mizu Sahara (an alternate pen name of mangaka Sumomo Yumeka), currently being serialized in Shinchosha's Weekly Comic Bunch. The comic is described as an "ultimate love story" about a young man named Masamune Kazama (Aiba). During high school, he had a girlfriend four years older than him, but she suddenly left one day. Six years later, he receives news that she has passed away. In addition, she secretly gave birth to Masamune's child, whom he finally meets and decides to raise.
TV Asahi will broadcast "My Girl" in its Friday 11:15pm time slot, starting in October.

Yoshitaka, Oguri & Mizushima to spice up your Monday!
Big news for all Oguri Shun fans, the 26 years-old actor is going to have the starring role in Fuji TVfs next Monday-09pm dorama "Tokyo DOGS ~Worst and Best Partners~" thatfs starting in October. Itfs the first time ever that Fuji TV is going to air an original police dorama in their most prestigious time slot for doramas.Oguri will play an elite cop from the New York Police Department, but as the title already suggest, he wonft be working alone. His partner who experienced a sudden rise from being a delinquent to being a detective at the police headquarter is going to be played by Mizushima Hiro (25), yet another very popular young ikemen actor. Fuji TV is already counting with quite some high ratings and there is no reason why they shouldnft.
Letfs look at some more detailed infos about their roles. Ogurifs role is an elite detective at the NY Police Department who originally has been working in the military. At work he seems to be calm and serious, but that doesnft mean that he canft adapt to all kind of situations. He is coming to Japan and (the setting is New York, according to Fuji TV) will work together with the Japanese Metropolitan Police Department in a joint operation in order to bust some large-scale drug dealings that are happening at the moment. He is going to work together with a detective from the Special Investigation Division, played by Mizushima.
Mizushima is a martial expert who used to be a delinquent and in a biker gang himself. He has a really hot-blooded character with a lot of hobbies that even intensify his cool and strong image, an unusual new role for Mizushima. Those 2 different personalities will have no other choice but to work as partners which is going to cause some really interesting negotiations, not to mention that great "buddy vibe" that is hopefully going to attract a lot of viewers.
Oguri himself is already quite excited about this dorama, "With such amazing coactors, I canft help but being excited right from the beginning." Mizushima too, "Itfs my first Monday-09pm dorama and I canft wait to show a totally new side of me."
The regular readers of this site probably already wonder why I posted this here, but donft worry, there IS going to be space enough for a heroine role. No other than the quickly rising Yoshitaka Yuriko (21) is going to play a very important key figure to all the events taking place in the dorama. Yoshitaka is just as excited as the other male leads. "Ifm so nervous and excited that Ifm shivering right now. Ifd like to take advantage of this nervousness and use it as an impulse to dash forward."
A whole new face for the Monday-09pm and I couldnft be more excited about Fuji TVfs change of course.
Wow, this rumor actually comes true. 2ch is getting it right these days.
I'm loving it. Another one is Hina of Kanjani8 as Aiba co-star in MyGirl. Before that they were saying it was Tsubasa.
Tokyo DOGS looks promising, as long as Hiro's character is not a bumbling idiot. He's real life tennen but can't play an idiot. How ironic. I'm a fan though because I think his love for Ayaka is kind of epic.
Would love to hear more of him speaking English as opposed to Shun's horrible pronunciation
The drama and main casts have been confirmed but they haven't announced the other regular minor characters. From the manga it seems the role for either Tsubasa/Hina will be Aiba's colleague. The character fits Hina's personality more than Tsubasa... but that's not acting imo.
Are they making it a trend with Arashi/Eito pairing or what?

I looooove Maya Miki and the story - if not full of macho cliches - sounds interesting.

TV Asahi brings back "Salaryman Kintaro" drama for second season
Masaru Nagai (31) will once again be playing the title character of "Salaryman Kintaro." TV Asahi has announced a second season for its drama series, which aired in 2008.
The original "Salaryman Kintaro" manga was previously adapted as a popular drama by TBS, running for four seasons between 1999 and 2004 with Katsunori Takahashi as the star. Last year, TV Asahi produced its own adaptation of the manga with Nagai as the lead, and the 11.8% ratings average was enough to support the decision for a second season.
The main cast of the first season will return for the new one, including Waka Inoue (28) and Ken Utsui (78). The new theme song was also revealed to be "long time no see," a new tune by the band B'z that appears on their latest album.
"Salaryman Kintaro 2" will air in TV Asahi's Friday 11:15pm time slot, beginning in January.
