Oyaji episode 5 tonight.
I am hating everyone in this drama - in a good way though! Great actors.

If you've ever seen Nyokei Kazoku, you'd feel the same way. Victory! Peace!

No I haven't - I just read the synopsis and Wynter's review. Sounds like something I would like! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Victory! Peace!

No problem. Victory! Peace!

Everyone in that drama is conniving and despicable... Which makes the payoff that much more satisfying. Victory! Peace!

Kabachitare

http://www.jdorama.com/drama.470.htm

Rats. The folks subbing this show gave up long ago after doing only episodes one and two. And I've had it sitting in the "orphan" pile for I don't know how long.

I shouldn't have started it. But with a cast like this; Tokiwa Takako and Fukatsu Eri as mismatched best friends and Shinohara Ryoko as the snotty meter maid... I had to take a look.

Naturally, I think it's terrific. And of course... without subs I'll miss 9 out of 10 of the jokes in the rest of the series.

Oh well. It was worth it to see the first two episodes.

I started watching Yoru ni dakarete
ɕ
La nuit des hommes / Night embrace

http://jdorama.com/drama.455.htm

From 94' it is a darker look at the male host society, and the prostitution that goes with it. THis is not a fluffy host bar frolic but a rather serious drama.
It is also somewhat unique in that the main protagonist, Higashiyama Noriyuki, is a closet gay male trapped into prostitution.
Not exaggerated gay either. Just a regular attractive young man who has gotten himself in way over his head.
Iwashita Shima is very gripping as the night club madam.
Really interesting.

After I finally watched "Karei naru Ichizoku" last week, I searched for similar dramas. And so I found Hagetaka, a modern business drama with focus on hedge funds and restructuring of unprofitable companies.

It was really nice to see that they did not turn it into a shallow "all money is evil" story but also portrayed the naivety of the average Japanese worker (and manager) regarding the reality of modern economy.

Sadly this drama does not seem to get much attention, so I though I might mention it here once...

And thanks for mentioning it!!! Thumbsup

I checked out episode 1 and this looks like it might be pretty good. Not just the subject matter, but you've got Ryuhei Matsuda and Chiaki Kuriyama who worked so well together in Ashita no Kita Yoshio. Best of all, nothing but real actors here, no spiky-haired stickboys!! Applaud

HANA KIMI, and I have since reached the following conclusions:

1) The more convinced I am that--with the exception of a very few gems such as NOBUTA WO PRODUCE and STAND UP!--high school-based dramas in general are nothing but one big, contiguous farce-o-rama where people are one-dimensional buffoons and situational plausibility gets pimped out for cheap laughs. Grumble

2) Oguri Shun is Love. Lovey Eyes

Just finished the first episode of Koi ni Ochitara. Have to say, I'm a little surprised. I liked it, and I don't even like that SMAP guy. Though, it does start off a little darkly, I'm looking forward to more of the series.

I felt the same way about SMAP guy.

When I was done with the drama, I found that I liked him more than the other SMAP guys... And that the drama was a very good ensemble of actors. Victory! Peace!

Have not seen Naomi. Agree on Dragon Zakura and highly recommend Medaka.
