Are you talking about encoding hard sub (permanent) while doing encoding? Or just playing the video with a soft sub file? If you just want to play them, Vobsub does it all on its own. You'll see a green arrow in your system tray...that's Vobsub working.

If there is a separate subtitle file, it is a soft sub. Put the file in the same folder, make sure the name of the video is the same as the sub file (except for the extension, of course). Vobsub will take over when you open your player and plays the video with subs for you......

I have just recently upgraded my Windows Media Player from version 8 to versino 9. Afterwards, I donwloaded the codec Divx 5.11 and Xvid to play the J-dramas. I'm trying to play the file (eg Itsumo Futari De from Jem's), but everytime I play it the audio and video doesn't match. The video compression is Divx codec. The video goes in slow motion, while the audio is in normal speed. What is the problem? And what else do I have to add?

WMP 9 is a HUGE resource hog compared to its previous versions This *could* be contributing to your problem. If you like having WMP 9 for some reason other than playing videos (like for the mp3 ripping utility) I suggest grabbing another player to play your videos by default. My suggestions would be to try BS Player or WMP Classic. They don't take up as many resources on your system and the audio/video sync problem won't be so common.

have u tried other players such as media player classic? my experience with wmp is sometimes it has problems with mpeg4 files. itsumo futari de [jem] is encoded using divx311, but still divx5 shouldn't have any problem. try another player Smile

Since it's a Windows thing, I believe each new version installed overwrites the other now ever since WMP 7, and I'm not sure how to go about uninstalling. I would try reinstalling WMP 8 first and see if it overwrites 9. If that doesn't work, install Windows Media Player Classic....that can be installed at the same time as WMP 9 and work separately. Or, if you don't wanna mess with it, try BS Player.

i've tried searching the web for uninstalling wmp9 but it seems that microsoft purposely do not include it into the Add/Remove programs. some suggest to use the system restore function in winxp. someone posted a guide here, but try on your own risk Big Grin

WMP 9, 8 & 7, all consume about the same amout of resources. As what have been said before, just try the media player classic - its mplay32.exe or mplayer32.exe and should be located in c:\windows\system32.

Or, you could try what i use, ffdshow for the codec and zoomplayer fo the video software. Just search the net on where to get it - i forgot the link.

like arnel said....

DO NOT USE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER...its not very useful
SAME GOES FOR REAL PLAYER... there is a bug in the newer version which messes up your files types... i read that somewhere

i (like arnel ) suggest ZOOMPLAYER it plays all kinds of files and its really "light" plus its free! Smile

I'd recommend Windows Media player classic if standard WMP doesn't work.
