When the popular Asian dish (Shabu Shabu) of meat and vegetables dipped in hot broth is reenvisioned as a $500 meal in Las Vegas, it may be time to try it at home.

500 dollars?!? For shabu shabu? I'm sure the ingredients are top shelf, many flown in from Japan, but still that is one SERIOUS markup. Only at the most stratospherically expensive restaurants in Japan would you pay 500 a head...and it definitely wouldn't be shabu shabu where you cook it yourself. I'd have to have a fat wad of bills in my pocket and be in a seriously good mood (read, drunk) to whip the paper money out for that meal!
The article says it's more expensive than a ticket to Tokyo...yeah right...when somebody finds me a ticket from LAX to Narita for 500 please PM me!

LOL.
You just have to slip $500 to an ANA baggage handler at the airport and he'll get you into the cargo hold of the plane.
I better slim down then because that extra order of gyoza I had might foil the plan to stick my a$$ in one of those bags.
On a serious note, there are no tickets for 500 dollars that I know of. I think it's more expensive than that considering the global price of fuel these past years.

No doubt.
I mean in the States they are starting to charge for even the FIRST bag checked in...pretty soon they are going to charge a weight surcharge to passengers for the plastic utensils used to eat the crappy airplane food.

You can always eat like a dog... Though they'll probably charge you for the napkins.
I'm surprised they haven't started charging to use the restrooms.
