Fans of Jikou Keisatsu may enjoy this film, Rug Cop, just watched it for about the 5th time, always gets better with each viewing. Even more silly than Jikou Keisatsu but just as entertaining and it's only 79 minutes.
Watched the trailer, looks good, lot of familiar faces in it too. Muga Tsukaji was also quite good in the Mamiya Brothers. Just viewed this classis, from 1967 A Colt is my Passport, everyone should be required to see at least one Joe Shishido film, after that there's no stopping!

Yamashita confirmed for "Ashita no Joe" movie
It has now been confirmed that the classic boxing manga "Ashita no Joe" will be turned into a live-action film, starring NEWS member Tomohisa Yamashita (24) as the protagonist Joe Yabuki. The movie is being directed by Fumihiko Sori ("Ping Pong," "ICHI") and is scheduled for release in early 2011.
The original manga, written by Asao Takamori and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba, was published between 1968 and 1973. The manga's volumes have sold more than 20 million copies combined, and the story has been turned into two animated television series (1970-1971, 1980-1981), two animated films (1980, 1981), and a live-action film (1970) starring Shoji Ishibashi.
Yamashita was offered the role about a year ago. He has been a boxing fan for a long time, and has even trained on his own at a boxing gym in the past. He will soon begin serious training to prepare for the role, as filming is set to start in early April.
Actor Teruyuki Kagawa (44) has been cast as Danpei Tange, the former boxer who becomes Joe's mentor. Kagawa himself is a boxing aficionado - he used to write regularly for the monthly Boxing Magazine and has served as commentator for WOWOW's televised boxing matches.
The rest of the cast has not yet been revealed. A newspaper recently reported that the manga is also being turned into a drama series on TBS with actress (and Yamashita's rumored girlfriend) Keiko Kitagawa (23) playing the heroine role. However, TBS denied both claims, stating that Kitagawa doesn't even have a role in the movie.

Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress was on Turner Classic Movies early last week. Couldn't watch it when it aired so the PVR saved the day.
I'll finally have some time to watch it tomorrow. I've always wanted to see it - not because of the inspiration it gave to Mr. George Lucas, but because I've read it's a damn good movie to boot!
Also have Love Exposure waiting in the wings, but want to be in the right frame of mind before watching it. 4 hour movies don't come around all to often, yet the film just screams EPIC to me. It sounds amazing as well.

Might do that since the first 30 minutes of the movie didn't record
Regardless of that, VERY entertaining film. The peasents were hilarious despite getting a tad annoying at several parts but I never really thought that dragged down the film. Action scenes were superb and very well done.
As for Mifune? The dude is awesome. Loved his performance here.
Holding off on Love Exposure. Either going to watch Hula Girls or Don't Laugh at my Romance right now. I need my Aoi Yu fix

Girl is Mikazuki-san from Jikou Keisatsu (Kumiko Aso). Guy (Ken'ichi Matsuyama)..I'm not sure where I've seen him...
Worth seeing just for her ...Matsuyama is most known for playing L in both Death Note movies, plus L:Change the world. He's come a long way from the first movie I saw him in, Shibuya Kwaidan II, I think from 2003. _________________

I've been watching the Tora-san movies lately.
Starting in 1969 Kiyoshi Atsumi went on to star in 48 Tora-san movies making the series the Guinness World Record holder for the longest running film series starring the same actor in the title role. And after watching 7 of them... it doesn't surprise me at all that Japanese audiences kept coming back year after year, movie after movie.
shin2 (who was generous enough to add to my collection) says the movies are geared toward middle aged guys. I guess because we get sentimental as we get old. If so, I feel bad for those of you who'll have to wait a few years before you can appreciate these movies.
The Tora-san movies are all stories about the personal life, the home life, of a character we've all seen a thousand times in different cop, or yakusa movies. He's the small time grifter, the black market peddler. The character is usually the comic relief small time crook who thinks he's important... but in reality he's almost always just used by either the real crime boss... or the hero cop.
Take that character, and send him home to his Aunt and Uncle's sweet shop twice a year to visit with his loving sister, and his home town friends... and you get a lot of very funny movies. _________________

I really liked Love Exposure, thought it was awesome. But, like Sion Sono's other works, it might not be for everyone's liking. If like me, you enjoy Sono's films, then you'll be glued to your seat for four hours.

Oguri, Nagasawa star in mountain climbing movie "Gaku"
Around the start of this year, it was revealed that Shinichi Ishizuka's mountaineering manga "Gaku: Minna no Yama" is being turned into a live-action film. Now, the starring cast has been unveiled as well: Shun Oguri (27) and Masami Nagasawa (22).
Osamu Katayama ("Heat Island") is directing the movie. The manga, which won in the 54th Shogakukan Manga Awards last year, follows a young climber named Sanpo (Oguri) who is a volunteer for a mountain rescue team. Nagasawa plays Kumi, a newcomer to the team.
Oguri is said to have had a fear of heights, but he overcame it during his training for the role, which he started at the end of December under the supervision of a professional mountain guide. Last month, he made it to the top of the 2.76km-tall Mount Io, despite freezing temperatures, heavy winds, and snow. Nagasawa, who also underwent training in the snowy mountains, had to cut her long hair by 30cm.
Other cast members include Kuranosuke Sasaki (42) as the rescue team chief, Takuya Ishida (23) as another team member, Atsuro Watabe (41) as an air rescue pilot, and Yoshie Ichige (59) as the manager of a mountain cottage.
Actual filming for the movie started on March 14 and is expected to last until July. Theatrical release will be sometime in 2011. The total production budget is said to be around 1 billion yen.
