Yes but..how could you go back in time if you had killed your grandpa so that you were never born in the first place? Am I making myself clear at all??

You would not exist to go back into time wolud you??

In any event I thought JIN was a wonderful drama and the story and premise quite acceptable because it was directed so well. The acting was superb by all the cast down to the smallest extra.

My only quibble was with the age of Ryoma. He was assassinated when he was thirty three and I think he looked a little old in JIN. How old was he supposed to be? At that time in Edo wasn't he already very much involved in the political scene and becoming a force in building a navy for Japan? He did not have time to be running around helping the doctor surely.

No matter it was a great drama to enjoy. There is a good discussion on d-addits re this drama and you might enjoy looking it up and maybe add your thoughts.

I just checked out the premise (a-ha! a Juri movie! of course! hehe). Sounds interesting. Victory! Peace! And Eita looks like a scrawny chicken in the poster, tee hee.

That's why it's called a paradox. Victory! Peace!

Not even Einstein had a way around these loopholes. I think that all the astrophysicists (and armchair astrophysicists Sweat) concur that traveling forward through time is theoretically possible, but nobody can figure out how to go backwards. Ah well, that's why it's called science fiction. Beaten

Lol, yeah, my thoughts exactly. Loved the character and the portrayal by Uchino Masaaki (who is the same age as Osawa, how's that for a guy who should've been just 27 in 1862? Mr Green), but there were times when I kept thinking, ano... don't you have a navy to build or something? Head Scratch

As for the D-A thread, I think I'm 5 months too late for those debates. Beaten

Worth hunting down, if you get the chance. Victory! Peace!

And there is some classroom time-space continuum/paradox discussion in the film. It's smart AND funny. Applaud

My JIN review:

http://endersgirrrl.wordpress.com/2010/04/28/drama-review-jin-tbs-2009/

Victory! Peace!

Edit:

Here's a (very short) excerpt (as per beemer's request): Sweat

JIN may best be described as a fusion drama in every sense of the word: a fantasy-mystery-jidaigeki-romance-medical procedural hybrid that defies any pigeonholing. In short, therefs just nothing like JIN. For history buffs who donft wish to sit through a 50-episode NHK Taiga but crave something longer than a chanbara movie, JIN can be your happy medium -- a kind of jidaigeki lite, if you will.

Admittedly, such fusion productions risk degenerating into a wild mishmash of genres, but JINes writing (adapted from a manga of the same title), and direction, thankfully make the drama anything but, and are able to integrate the disparate elements into a smooth and engrossing piece of entertainment. Moreover, the fusion works because the overall style and tone of JIN remain consistent throughout. Notwithstanding the scattered WTFreako! moments (like Creepus the Plastic Fetus, more on it later, ugh) plus a few other instances of heavy-handed tearjerking, itfs the interesting mix of genres, well-written characters and terrific cast chemistry, an intelligent, absorbing storyline peppered with thought-provoking moral conundrums and insightful historical analysis, and very creditable production values, that altogether make JIN a highly enjoyable watch well worth your time.

Heh heh. Thanks dear. Victory! Peace! I don't think I was as emotionally invested in this drama compared to my last one (NINKYO HELPER! huhuhu Shameful Cry), but at least I had lots of fun watching JIN. Victory! Peace!

The question that has puzzled many experts and historians about this drama is how five-foot-five Ogata-sensei (Takeda Tetsuya) managed to carry an over-weight, six-foot high Taguchi Hiromasa (forgot his name in the drama) on his back.

I was hooked from ep.1, being a big fan of time travel stories. Jin airs every sunday here in Los Angeles, i think its up to episode 5 right now,but i just couldnt wait and bought it on ebay. finshed the last episode last night, this is a great drama, the scenery and music are so beautiful,i kept turning it off after every 15 minutes to try and make it last longer, theres at least one part in every episode that will get you choked up. i really wanted to see saki and jin to get together, but doesnt look like its going to happen.

Looks like it's official:

JIN getting sequel

"JIN" sequel slated for spring 2011
Mon, June 7, 2010 (6:41pm EDT)
The popular, award-winning drama series "JIN" is officially getting a sequel, scheduled for spring 2011. Takao Osawa will reprise his starring role, along with other main cast members including Haruka Ayase, Masaaki Uchino, and Miki Nakatani.

Based on a manga by Motoka Murakami about a brain surgeon who gets sent back in time to the Bakumatsu era, "JIN" originally aired last fall. The series averaged over a 19% rating, with the final episode reaching 25.3%, the highest for any drama series on a commercial network last year.

Osawa commented that he was concerned about the sequel being a retread of the first series. However, the new series is said to be a step up in terms of scale and intensity. One of the highlights will be the assassination of Sakamoto Ryoma (Uchino) and whether the surgeon Jin (Osawa) can save him. New characters being introduced include Nakaoka Shintaro and the samurai Saigo Takamori.

Rumors surfaced earlier this month that Osawa and Ayase are in a relationship, but both of their agencies have denied it. As a result, the series will be receiving extra attention from fans and the media, especially since their characters in the drama are romantic interests.

The show's producer stated that this will be the conclusion of the drama and that there will be no movie version.

I wonder how they're going to end this drama because isn't the manga still going on? Hope they tie up all the loose ends from the first season.
