Any recommendations for a drama with a good story (nothing too silly or over the top though)?
I see you have Matsuyuki Yasuko as one of your faves. She is currently starring in Mother, one of the best "serious" dramas I have seen. Might be one to check out.

hi, any suggestion of a good love drama..I've already watched hana yori dango, hotaru no hikari, first love, innocent love, anego....any other suggestions????arigato.............
Has anyone seen 'Chase' from this season? Would you recommend it?
I love Arata and Aso Kumiko but I'm not sure what it's about ...
I've only seen the first episode, but from what I've seen so far I'd say it's worth a watch. Arata is kinda creepy/sexy in this...and one thing's for sure, you would never imagine this to be a NHK drama since they usually tend to be a lot more conservative with their subject material.
Eguchi Yosuke plays an investigator who is after Arata, a genius tax evasion consultant. It's only six episodes long and I've heard good things about it. I plan on finishing it soon.

Here's a suggestion: Read the Posting Guidelines before starting any new threads.
Merging.

Thanks strawberryfzz! Did you say creepy/sexy? I'm sold.
I just adore Arata - we have the same taste in glasses! It's totally delusional but I just know if we would meet, we would become the greatest friends ever. Total hang-out at indie concerts material.

Ooh, thanks! I saw that some other people were watching this drama too. Will try to check it out one of these days. _________________

I would like to ask for suggestions but I can't give a clear definition for what I'm looking for. I know what I don't: melodrama.
Maybe something in the vein of Good Luck/Engine/Ninkyo Helper, or Koi ni Ochitara if this pattern makes sense?
Okane ga nai! with English subtitles by TimelessSub has just been finished. Even though I don't think it's like those you mentioned, I think it's one of the most entertaining drama I have watched, and very funny at times too. Highly recommended.
Have you seen Galileo or Utahime? I'd recommend both of those as lighter on the melodrama and a bit more humorous than tragic.
I have watched Galileo for a few episodes last year but I did not have the rest at that time. Maybe I should finish it now. I did not watched Utahima though, I will look for both of them.

I am watching the subbed version currently (episode 18). But since this is my first taiga drama I can not compare it to others of its kind.
As a normal drama it is watchable. But as a period piece I am really questioning the historical correctness, or better the depiction of the characters. It very often smells like distortion of the past (Ryoma is larger then life and even the power-hungry villain only wants "the best for his country" and so on).

Hmm. I may have to re-consider in that case~ Thanks for the response. _________________
