True, but seeing as how it was really free because of the certificate, said 'why not'. Nice box set it came in, need a break from dramas, think this will do the trick. Also came with a faily good booklet, many pics and stories, etc in it.

Yeah, that's one of the real nice things about Criterion's releases as well: Supplements.

Yeah, they do have some good supplements, really like reading them, best ones were actually from two 70's super-hero shows, Super Robot Red Baron and Iron King. _________________
Hopefully the Japanese film industry won't rape my childhood like Hollyweird continues to do. Starring KimuTaku so half of the movie will be close ups of his face scowling or smirking.
Fun romp through Tokyo with Jo Odagiri and Tomokazu Miura, with odd situations and characters throughout the movie. Yuriko Yoshitaka is cute in this and what movie wouldn't be complete without a few of Odagiri's Jikou Keisatsu buddies.

Dunno if anybody saw Inu no Eiga. It was a nice little movie that came out in 2005. Anyway, looks like it's getting a sequel:

The 2005 film "Inu no Eiga" is getting a sequel. Titled "Inu to Anata no Monogatari: Inu no Eiga," the movie comprises six stories about people's relationships with their dogs.
Nao Omori and Nanako Matsushima will play a married couple in one of the stories. Akira Nakao, Masaaki Uchino, Atsuko Takahata, Kie Kitano will also appear in the film.
Several directors are involved in the project, including Shunichi Nagasaki, whose works include the 2008 movie "Nishi no Majo ga Shinda" ("The Witch of The West is Dead").
"Inu to Anata no Monogatari" is expected to open in theaters in 2011.

Inudo, Higuchi co-direct "Nobou no Shiro" adaptation

"Nobou no Shiro," a Naoki Prize-nominated novel by author Ryo Wada, is being adapted as a theatrical film, co-directed by Isshin Inudo and Shinji Higuchi. It will feature Mansai Nomura in his first starring movie role since 2003.
The novel, which was also adapted as a manga, tells the story of Narita Nagachika, a military commander during the Sengoku era known to those around him as "Nobou-sama." With only 500 soldiers, he defended Oshi Castle against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army of 20,000.
Koichi Sato, Tomomitsu Yamaguchi, and Hiroki Narimiya will play retainers to the Narita clan.
Theatrical release has been set for sometime in 2011.

Aragami: REALLY surprised by this one. Wasn't expecting much, but damn the 75 min running time went by quick. Osawa Takao keeps on impressing me and handled his fight scenes well.
Kudos to Kitamura, he might not be the next Ozu or Kurasawa, but he knows how to make an entertaining film.

Now I need to check out 2LDK
2LDK is certainly a entertaining film, only 2 actresses in the whole movie, at only 70 minutes it flies by. Forget who directed it, but him and Kitamura had some sort of challenge going to see who could make the best film in a week and less than 80 minutes, caught that in the special features, now I'm tempted to watch it again. _________________

Yeah, I read the story on the bet which is why I decided to check out both films. I'm just impressed both filmmakers were able to pull this off on such a short shooting schedule.

Tora-San number's 14 & 15.
Number 14 annoyed me... mostly because I'm an old fud. A new actor was added to the cast to replace the fella who played Tora's Uncle... and it ticked me off. it shouldn't have. I'd read the whole story about how many characters had changed over the years. But as I go along in the series the characters are becoming more and more important to me. And I didn't like seeing a new guy sitting at the table.
I got over it, of course. But I thought it was interesting that I was bothered so much. Earlier in the series a different actress took over the role of Auntie, and that didn't bother me a bit. I guess because I hadn't become quite as attached back then.
#15, "Tora - San Meets the Songstress Again" was (to me) a very important film in the series. Ruriko Asaoka returns as "Lily"... and with her, hope is introduced to the series. The hope that there just might be a future for Tora somewhere down the line. The hope that there really is someone out there for him. And hope is an important element in keeping a story going.
I also watched 20th Century Boys III this weekend.
Though better than #2, I still wasn't all that impressed. I think I'll have to sit down and re-watch the three films again. Maybe if I don't leave so much time inbetween the story will make a bit more sense. (I doubt it, but I'm a big fan of the Director, and most of the cast... so the series deserves a chance.) _________________
