Miura Haruma was unrecognizable in the samurai garb as well as making totally convincing bad ass edo samurai expressions. The guy face looks like a kabuki mask sometimes. I'm pleasantly surprise since I have low-expectation of Miura acting which is influanced by others (this forum mainly) perception on him.
The rest of the story is typical high school romp but its still quite palatable. I don't know if its just me but the school girls in this drama wear really short, cute skirts.
Pretty satisfied with the first episode. Looking forward to rest.

Yeah well, it's way more interesting when the samurai apears, but he plays both roles efectively.

i did not find Miura to be a girlie-man, as this forum likes to point him out to be. i was extremely surprised by his acting ability; did not know he had it in him. he does have a natural comedic look and does a convincing "samurai". BUT what blew me away was Yu Shirota's acting - damn that bad ass can really play a believable dork. i am totally enjoying this drama!!!
Wow. This thread has been sleeping for 5 months. Tried watching it, as expected, your usual high school comedy drama. So for those fed up in this genre, stay away from SHS. In gloomy days like these, i need some absurdity from japanese comedy dramas
I'm liking Watanabe Ken's daughter. More appealing than the main character. and I think Shirota Yuu's too old as a high school student though he can pull of that dorky character he's playing. As for Miura Haruma... it's kinda weird seeing him do comedy. Kinda different from his charac in Bloody Monday. Maybe I need time to adjust?

Just watch first 3 episodes last night. As you said, usual high school comedy drama. But not bad i guess (havent finish watching).
I kind of hate Yuu Shirota here. What's with that girly voice. And true, he's too old for high school student character.
As for Miura Haruma, when he's in samurai character he's OK. but, when back to ordinary high school student, i just cant accept all those funny face. I also need time to adjust Miura Haruma comedy role.
btw is that girl is Anne Watanabe? So different. Never cross my mind she's a very beautiful model. _________________

That's my one big complaint. Suzuka Ohgo was so great in Sexy Voice and Robo, and when I saw she was in this one I thought she'd be a great addition but it doesn't look like they're giving her much to do.
And the plots are pretty formulaic. I've gotten to the point where I can pretty much guess, "Here comes the samurai."

I really didn't get that until today watching epi 6. When he and Miura were fighting with the shinai (kendo sticks) that was such a hoot!!
