Maddux had a total of 18, first one was when he was 24. He was actually a really good fielder, he worked harder at than most others, probably helped him win a bunch more games. _________________

NL also released their Gold Glove winners, Scott Rolen won his 8th, sure that puts him also in some select company, he's now won the award with 3 different teams, wonder how many other players can say that? _________________

Japanese infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka gwants to play on the West Coasth
MSNBC
Later this week MLB teams are expected to bid on exclusive negotiating rights to Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Japanese infielder gwants to play on the West Coasth and is mostly interested in the Dodgers, Giants, Diamondbacks, and Padres.
He wonft actually have a choice in the matter, as Nishioka will only be allowed to sign with whichever team submits the high bid to the Chiba Lotte Marines, but assuming MLB front offices have done their homework those four teams figure to be in the mix.
Hernandez writes that gthe Dodgers are his preferred landing spoth and gare known to have scouted Nishioka.h Los Angeles has Rafael Furcal at shortstop, but could use Nishioka at second base if they non-tender Ryan Theriot before the arbitration deadline.
Earlier this week the Afs bid $17 million for the exclusive negotiating rights to Hisashi Iwakuma and now have 30 days to negotiate a contract with the Japanese right-hander.

Read that about the A's bidding $17 for Hisashi Iwakuma, hard to believe, they are one of cheapest and poorer clubs in MLB, don't know what his Japanese salary was but really can't see the A's topping that. _________________

Felix Hernandez won the AL Cy Young award today despite having a rather mediocre 13-12 record though he did lead the league in ERA and Ks. Price was a distant second while Sabbathia finished 3rd.
And Halladay on Tuesday was awarded the award in the NL, only the 13th unanimous selection ever and the 5th to win in both leagues, he certainly deserved it. _________________

$17??
I've got $20 in my wallet.
Yay, sold to the highest bidder, one player down, 24 more to go! Heard you can get Broxton for less than $17 if you have a salary cap. _________________

Baseball is still in the news, today Joey Votto was named the NL MVP, capturing 31 out of the 32 first place votes. Albert Pujois finished a distant second followed by Carlos Gonzalez, Adrian Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki and Ray Halladay...2 Rockies in the top 5? _________________

Lot of Jeter bashing the last few weeks in the NY papers, his $189M contract is now over, he wants another $100M for 5 years, Yanks only want to do 3 years for $45M, he'll never leave but GM Cashman said try to find a better offer, says no team will never top the Yanks offer. Today's NY Post back cover, don't think us Sox fans really want to see this.

^ That would be hilarious.
Why can't NY players go to Boston?
A lot of BoSox players have gone to NY: Ruth, Clemens, Damon, etc...
Think the Sox fans hate Yanks players more than the Yank's fans hate Sox players, tough to outbid them too.
In the first big signing so far, Sox lose their starting catcher as Martinez signed a 4 year $50M contract with the Tigers. Now they need a C, 3B, OF and are praying that Youk, Pedroia, Ellsbury can come back healthy, they better not wait too long to start making some trades or FA signings.
PS- NY Daily News also had a pic of Jeter in a Dodger uniform, now would they want him? _________________

Dodgers sign Giants free agent Juan Uribe to a three-year contract.
I hope he's not another bust like that Giants pitcher we signed a couple of years back.
Ah, you mean Jason S? Yeah, what a bust he was, they also signed Garland. Meanwhile the Giants signed Tejada to take Uribe's place and the Rockies just gave Troy Tulowitzki a 7 year, $134M extension. _________________

Yeah, Jason Schmidt.
I think it was well-planned conspiracy by the Giants to hose the Dodgers... And it worked perfectly.
