(1) Helping my mom prepare her birthday dinner (and feeling lightheaded from all the wine I've been swilling )
(2) Trying to analyze The Matrix trilogy using Baudrillard's Simulacra theory
(3) Planning my Bali trip online
(4) Helping my uncle plan his upcoming wedding+honeymoon -- also online
(5) Anticipating the latter part of tonight, which will be spent finishing off Kusanagi Tsuyoshi's 5-part SP 99-nen no Ai ~ Japanese-Americans, heavy-handed expository dialogue and hammy, over-enunciating Caucasian actors w/ fake Eemrrrican accents notwithstanding

Sounds fun, especially the Bali trip *jealous* but Baudrillard I remember having to read some of his work in French at University, his writing style is so jumpy ... but I'd read the simulacra theory every day if it meant to avoid 99-nen no Ai forever.

I'm going to Bukit, Bali for a friend's wedding, but will definitely make a side trip to those artisan villages and do the whole EatPrayLove thing. Trip isn't till July but my friends and I want to book early. And guess who's working out the travel itinerary...
Re Baudrillard, I think I got to the part where he goes, "Disneyland=EEEVIL!!! EEEVIL!!!" He does raise some interesting points, though. Too bad I was never much of a philosophy nut. Anyway I'm just helping a friend write a paper, haha.

Come to think of it, I probably would too! I can't believe 99-nen no Ai is *just* an SP... feels like this will take me 99 years, to finish, lol. (Sometimes, to keep me entertained through the whole ordeal I'd start singing the chorus of Megadeth's "99 Ways to Die" in my head. Kind of rhymes, too. )

So that's how it works. You lost the chess game, so you have to plan his wedding. Old guys can be pretty tricky.
LAWL, that was my grandpa whom I lost the chess match to, not my uncle. (Did I write "ojisan" back then? I meant "ojIIsan.") But it's all in the same family (my uncle is the youngest of 10 kids, while my mom's the eldest), so you were close enough. My uncle and his bride-to-be are based in Chicago, so being the dutiful eldest niece I've been tasked to coordinate everything on the home front. (Btw, can I just brag that I earned the distinction of being the 1st person in 2011 to beat my granps at chess. On New Year's Day. Battle lasted till 3 AM, and right after I won my ojiisan gravely shook my hand... and demanded a re-match, lol. Lucky for me my grandma stormed into the kitchen and promptly sent him off to bed. )
