Kurokawa Tomoka was blamed for the mediocre ratingso of this live action special when it was aired. After watching the subbed version I feel the need to say a few words in her defense.

It was never easy to convert a popular anime/manga into a successful live action, "Nodame Cantabile" is really the exception to the rule. Very often characters in anime/manga are too exaggerated to be casted by a human. In this case I think the only successful cast was Jinnai Takanori as Mouri Kogoro; Kurokawa Tomoka was a little too over-nourished for Ran; Iwasa Mayuko a little too old for Sonoko; Oguri Shun for Kudou Shinichi wasn't too bad though, on the whole.

The mimicking of a anime character was no easy task too. In this instance Jinnai once again got full marks, although the highly idiosyncratic mannerisms of Mouri Kogoro actually made it easier for Jinnai. I've always thought Ran a little washed-out in character, but Kurokawa did an adequate job IMHO. Iwasa failed to demonstrate Sonoko's affluence, although her 'man-hunting' attics are quite amusing.

The big disappointment was Oguri Shin. Instead of an intelligent teenager detective who cared very much for his childhood sweetheart, Oguri's portrait of Shinichi was a stuck-up brat with very little variation in facial expression, let alone his affection for Ran.

Kudou Shinichi is not an easy character to portrait, but to fail as miserably as Oguri took so talent (or lack thereof).

The plot itself stinks to high heaven, way below the usual standards found in 'Conan'.

All in all it's not worth the effort, at least not unless you are a Kurokawa fan - let's just say her attire draws some attention. Mr Green

I just watched it...and like it..haha Mr Green
I think the girl is someway cute...although everybody seems not to like her Doh!
Oguri Shun also had done a great job, I just like him, ...he is sooo handsome....he was really cool.
I just wished, that they would have shown more situations with Shinichi and Ran....
Does anybody know, if there would be coming another live-action from Detective Conan?...

I really don't understand how this live action could become soooo awful. All the catst are annoying. Is Sinichi's character in he manga like that? It started like some sort of Hana Yori Dango thingi. What the hell was the "kakoiiii" crap about? All the casts were daymn weak yet annoying (well, Oguri Shun was okay). Ran and Sonoko was made annoying. Ran was seems like this desperate byotch who wants sinichi's attention every single second, dumb, yet unindependant. Sonoko'a character was played badly. And the case was utterly chidish, a kidnap, that sounded like an elementry school challange. The case would look better if it was done by the Kindaichi brat in Kuitan. Megure's stomach looks like a 9month pregnance.

Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:

"I'll show you the spirit of a detective"

Lame... shut the f*ck up and save your daughter dude.

How could Aoyama Gosho agree on making this riddiculous live action? Those Detective Conan movies are much much better done. This live action should be left and forgotten as it is a disgrace to the entertaining Detective Conan series.

I watched this dorama . it's great !
I loved Shun when i watched Gokusen season 1 . I Think he played shinichi very well .
For saying " let her live , She is important , important than my life " , he will be in my heart forever
but in manga , I like shinichi X haibara although i know it's impossible . that's why I wish shinnichi said that to ran in manga

Junpei Mizobata stars in new "Detective Conan" drama special
Tue, February 8, 2011 (6:03pm EST)
The "Detective Conan" franchise is confirmed to be getting a third live-action drama special, airing on NTV this April. Although Shun Oguri (28) previously starred in the 2006 and 2008 drama specials, the new one will feature Junpei Mizobata (21) as the protagonist Shinichi Kudo. The female character Ran Mori will be played by actress Shiori Kutsuna (18).

The drama special was produced to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the animated series and its theatrical films. The newest movie, "Meitantei Conan: Chinmoku no 15-fun," opens on April 16.
