A general probably didn't get his position because of any military prowess. More than likely, he got it by being a crony of the dictator.
That also explains why, even though they outnumber Israel by 20 to 1, everytime they pick a fight with the Israelis they get their ass kicked.
And looking at what's going on in Libya right now, I think this is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better.

Because Virginia Tech, Delaware State, Northern Illinois U, U of Alabama, Columbine, and on and on have shown us how effective designated "gun-free" zones have been in protecting its students.

One of the men who stopped the shooter, and was ignored by the media, was a legal concealed weapons holder who has said his weapon gave him the confidence to assist. It was after he recognized the situation had changed when he chose not to draw his firearm. And the the shooter could have caused exponentially more harm had he driven a vehicle through the crowd. Or brought a knife considering how close he was to her. And like the school shootings, how would the laws, which were already in place, have stopped him?

I don't necessarily think that possibly multiplying the potential number of unhinged people with guns on the campuses of those illustrious institutions is the answer. While the laws in place didn't stop those idiots a permissive environment for firearms on school campuses hardly seems like the enlightened answer.
On the other hand, it must be a great marketing tool for recruiting more of America's most highly talented students.
This illustrious student from this globally recognized Texas college is obviously a proponent of the new bill.

Update: Lon Morris student arrested after AK-47 found in dorm room

JACKSONVILLE (KYTX) -- An East Texas college student is expelled and arrested after a firearm is found in his dorm room.
Police say the gun was a loaded AK-47. It was found Saturday during random security checks in one of the dorms at Lon Morris College. Monday, the school credited its security measures for finding the firearm before someone got hurt.
"Saturday afternoon, they had completed 18 routine searches before they got to this room," Rev. Rhett Ansley said.
On the Lon Morris College campus, security teams perform regular checks in dorm rooms. "They go through looking for property that may have been stolen, just to check property and to make sure students have things that are keeping with the college's mission in their room,"said Det. Daniel Franklin.
On Saturday, when officers got to 21 year old Evan Gilliland's room in Fair Hall, they said they were met with resistance. "When they opened the door actually the resident opened the door, saw the security and he tried to shut the door real quick. The security officers were able to get the door pried open to get back into the room," Franklin said.
Inside, police say they found a loaded AK-47 and 2 loaded magazines sitting on Gilliland's desk. "He informed the officers he had bought the weapon a couple of days ago and that the weapon was in his car and he had taken it out of his car and brought it in his room. He gave no other reasons or explanations as to why he had the gun," Franklin said.
It's a discovery that concerned students and stunned administrators.
"They probably could have hurt everybody on campus," Kiyana Lockheart said.
"Of course we're shocked. It is not in keeping with the expectation we have of our students," Ansley said.
Today both are thankful for stringent security measures the campus has in place.
"You never know what they would have done with the gun especially if somebody would have said something wrong to them," Lockheart said.
Gilliland was arrested for possession of a firearm in places prohibited. He was booked in the Cherokee County Jail. He was released on a $10,000 bond. We found no record of any prior arrests. Gilliland is from Austin, and was in his first year at Lon Morris, majoring in psychology.

The whole thing is like a dog chasing cars. He wouldn't know what to do with it once he caught it. It is our great failing to assume everyone in the world think and want to be like us. "Democracy" works for us because of our culture and history. They have their own culture and history; that's why they've always been ruled by a strongman, and likely will have another strongman when all settles, under the guise of democracy of course. Egypt was under Mubarak for 30 years, and readily accepted night disappearances, lack of freedoms, etc. What changed? The internet? Idealistic, but not very likely. Freedom in that region is not a priority as long as the basic needs are not a problem. Dictators get into trouble when there's a problem with those basic needs. And the Egyptian protests were far from a popular uprising as portrayed in the media. I think the most generous numbers put the protesters at less than 1% of the population. Maybe less than a quarter of a percent. I've always been one to say that the world has always been changed by the minority, but less than a quarter of a percent would really be pushing that. If they had even some semblance of organization and preparation for Mubarak stepping down that might inspire a little confidence, but like I said, the only oppostion ready is the Muslim Brotherhood, and we really don't want them in charge.
The region will probably not look the same a year from now. Unfortunately, we will probably not like what it will become.

The assumption is that it multiplies the amount of unhinged people with guns on campus, but that is baseless. Unhinged people, intent on becoming an active shooter, will and have brought firearms unto prohibited campuses to use. The story you posted, says that a loaded firearm is prohibited already, yet the student chose to do so anyway. If he was an unhinged student, how would the law have stopped him? And that's a big "if". What he did was against campus rules, so his arrest was correct. But what part of the article, other than innuendo, says he's unhinged or was intent on causing harm? Many states have CCW and open carry laws, yet the streets aren't flowing with blood from these people.

Regarding guns at colleges.
I hate that it is always a maniac who is shooting defenseless people.
I can't say I dont wish there was an EXPERIENCED, SOBER person there to stop them.
However...........
Not allowing guns to be held on campus, by a group of hormonally charged kids who are likely under the influence of either drugs, alcohol or both, must be a good thing to me.
(Most people who went to college Im sure agree with me about the emotional and sobriety level of the student body)
Its better they work out their differences playing beer pong than shooting. _________________
