I'm still in complete awe of the intensity of the Japan quake that hit and the Tsunami photos on the internet. Some of the raw footage taken on Youtube by various foreigners in Japan and by Japanese locals, is quite intense of the earthquake and aftershocks.

The tip of the Tokyo Tower actually got bent as a consequence of the earthquake...but still not as bent as that guy who was high on weed with the plants in his room in the video link that Takoyama posted.

Hawaii update:
some harbors got nailed and boats crunched. For those of you who have visited the Big Island of Hawaii which got the worse damage in Kailua-Kona and the south coast, the super moving waves (about six feet high) nailed the Kona harbor, flooded and broke up shops by the pier and the lobby of the King Kamehameha Hotel. Down at Kealakakua (near the Captain Cook monument) houses were knocked off foundations and some went to sea as did a bunch of cars. No one injured but a lot of very frightebned locals and visitors. Amazing as this end of the island is on the complete opposite end of the direction from where the earthquake in Japan was centered. the waves looped around and nailed the south end of the island. same on all the islands. the harbors in direct line to Japan hardly had an issue.
What a horrible weekend. So much loss of life and destruction. This whole weekend I was glued to watching the news. It's really heartbreaking watching people on the news trying to find missing loved ones. I heard Sakamoto Kyu's "Ue wo muite arukou" playing on the radio today and my eyes teared up. Not sure if it was Tokyo FM's intent to cheer people up or make them depressed? We are definitely not out of the woods just yet. Those nuclear power plants are top priority right now. I rode my bike around the neighborhood and everyone is doing their part in conserving energy. You cannot even buy gas for your car right now. Such a somber experience like 911.

Even though I'm way over here in SoCal, I feel really numb after watching the horrific events unfold over the past few days... Awful.

I feel for you and those in Japan. As in Chile, Haiti, and New Zealand, earthquake destruction does not discriminate.
The situation seems especially horrific in Miyagi-ken. I tried to do something small but donating money to one of the numerous disaster relief funds dedicated to helping Japan in the aftermath.
Did you get to stock up on essentials if that's even necessary where you are?
Yeah, fortunately I got gas on Friday an hour before the quake hit. I have a lot of food at home to last 3 months. Bunch of canned foods hahaha (SPAM SPAM and SPAM). Just needed to get extra batteries yesterday just in case. Everyone is doing their part in Tokyo.

So glad to hear you are doing Ok. The news footage has been so horrifying.
No where on this planet but Japan would have had anything left after an earthquake of such magnitude. THeir engineering standards are amazing. I have been very relieved to hear from friends in Hawaii that they and their families in Japan are fine.
