I definitely understand it as an artistic endeavor. Obviously some of the pieces shown at runway shows are not intended to be part of Prêt-à-Porter collections.
Given your artistic endeavors, if you're interested in exploring the process (and the people!) who work in fashion, as I discussed with the Beastmaster previously, I recommend the following documentaries:

Thanks for the recommendations! I actually own Valentino! I gave it to the Fashion teacher at my school to show to her students before I even watched it and ever got it back. _________________

You're welcome. The Last Emperor is a great documentary. The only other film that comes to mind is the Karl Lagerfeld documentary, "Lagerfeld Confidential," but I found the docs I recommended above to be more informative endeavors regarding fashion as a creative discipline. Nonetheless, you may want to check it out.
