One of my guidelines for what I consider a really good movie/drama: rewatchability.

Anybody still watching this thread?
I just discovered Swing Girls a week ago and can't get these kids out of my mind (yes, kids, as I am probably one of the oldest members of this forum).
I spent two years in Japan in the mid-60's and have always wanted to go back and see how the country has changed. This movie indicates there have been many changes indeed.
Anyway, I have enjoyed reading the thread and am here to discuss further if anyone has an interest.

Thanks for the response. I've been trying to find more information about the actors in the film but the only one having any significant amount has been Juri and mostly in Japanese. I used to be street-conversant in Japanese but never learned to read Kanji. I'm finding out I lost a lot not having spoken it for so long.
They are a very cute bunch for sure but the one who intrigues me is the drummer, Yukari Toyoshima. I think she is also one of the oldest of the actors as well.
I have been able to find the movie, the concert and the "making of" videos. Is there anything else out there that covers this apparent big event? I had never heard of Swing Girls until about a week ago when someone messaged me pointing to the YouTube video of one of their pieces.

There's a couple from the film who are quite popular and are in many other movies and dramas, notably Naoto Takenaka who played their 'mentor', he's one of the best around. Also Yuta Hiraoka who played Nakamura is well known and has been in a ton of other things, as far as the rest of the band went have been in many other things but haven't really become that popular. _________________

After watching Swing Girls for the first time last week, I'm shocked Shihori Kanjiya hasn't hit the big time yet. Still has been keeping busy, but no true "breakout" role that makes her a household name. Slowly getting there after seeing her work in Golden Slumber (even if it was a very small role) and Parade.

She was in the drama, Love Shuffle, the asadora Chiritotechin, and last year's Taiga, Ryomaden.

oh ya, can anyone tell me what's swing girls live - first and last concert about? i found the torrent but nobody's seeding it so i am unable to download.
"First and Last Concert" is basically an interview with a lot of the people who acted or were behind the scenes players in the movie. It is in Japanese and there are no subtitles. They will show a brief scene from the movie and then interview people associated with it. I can't speak Japanese but could follow the general discussions pretty well.
It is currently being seeded on thepiratebay.com but if you can't get a copy there let me know and I can make my copy available (although I have altered mine a little bit for personal reasons).

This movie is what made me fell in love with the J-Movies and J-Dramas and Japan in general. This japanese movie is the most memorable for me...
Ueno Juri has been very popular since.
Kanjiya Shihori was seen in quite a few dramas too, I saw her recently in Bartender.
Some have gone on to be musicians in the indie scene while others have had minor roles here and there. Also still continuing school or maybe having a regular job.
Most of them have their own blogs and such, problem is I don't understand the language..
I do think about them and I hope all of them (and boy) are doing ok and well since the recent earthquake... I do hope to meet them one day and tell them they made me fell in love with Japan....
