It is true, forget the exact # of times but think it's 7 the amount of times they've been in first at the All Star break the last 9 years but only once have they won the division, Beat You something always happens...slumps, injuries, Yanks get hot but they have a veteran team now, they need to learn to get over that hump and have home field advantage. And meanwhile, Natsu Kōshien started! w00t!

If I'm "decyphering" correctly from the official site using as reference the extremely useful sheet published by goroshigeno in his blog, opening day's results should be:

Takasaku Kenkō Fukushida (Gunma) - Imabari Nishi (Ehime) 7-6

Kanazawa (Ishikawa) - Ise Kōgyō (Mie) 4-0

Seikō Gakuin (Fukushima) - Nichinan Gakuen (Miyazaki) 5-4

Tomorrow's games:

Shizuoka (Shizuoka) - Narashino (Chiba)

Meitoku Gijuku (Kōchi) - Hokkai (Minami Hokkaido)

Hanamaki Higashi (Iwate) - Teikyō (Higashi Tōkyō)

Hachiman Shōgyō (Shiga) - Yamanashi Gakuindai Fuzoku (Yamanashi)

Again reading goroshigeno's sheet, the schools making their first appearance at the torunament are the representatives of the following prefectures: Miyagi, Gunma, Nagano, Gifu, Aichi, Ōsaka, Yamaguchi, Kumamoto e Okinawa.

I'm gonna root for those, as well as for Kansai (and particularly Hyōgo's) schools, and finally (as "baka" as it may sound Sweat ) for the school representing the prefectures my fave actresses come from (which means: Ōita, Saitama, Gunma, Kanagawa) Mr Green

Happy tournament everybody, may the best win! Victory! Peace!

^^ When you see the Sox score 10 runs have to figure that Lackey U Suck pitched and he did, why can't they do that for Beckett and Lester? CC does not like pitching against the Sox, 0-3 this year with an ERA of almost 9.00. Naughty

^^ Hopefully they can keep that up if they meet in October. Fingers crossed
Some pitchers like Lackey certainly get a lot of runs when they pitch, others don't, Weaver pitched his second 9 inning 0-0 game last night and got nothing for his effort except for lowering his ERA to.... 1.78, haven't seen a low one like that in a long time. Applaud

This year with the Dodgers, Kuroda is 7-13 with a 2.96 ERA. In his last 10 starts he's 2 and 7 with one no-decision, both wins coming on shutouts and the Dodgers have scored a total of 20 runs in those 10 games. Chad Billingsley on the other hand, is 10-9 with a 4.17 ERA. In his last 10 starts he's 5-5 and the Dodgers have scored 44 runs. Crazy

And if the rotations stay the way they are, when the Phillies come to town next week, on Monday it'll be Halladay vs. Kuroda. Shake Head

That's the problem when you're the #1 or 2 starter on a team, you go against the other teams top 2 usually. Lackey is the 4th starter so he goes against the other team's 4th too which is why the Sox score so many runs when he pitches.
It doesn't matter against the Phils though, Halladay is the best in the game but even if it wasn't him pitching it could be Lee or Hamels, no breaks there. Sweat

Ellsbury had 6 RBIs in the game today giving him 70 on the year, for a leadoff batter that's a good number for an entire season Mr Green and here it is only the first week of August. Was curious so checked out who holds the record for RBIs by a leadoff batter in a season.... record is 100 by Erstad back in 2000, he broke Nomar's total which was 98. The NL record which is even more impressive becuase the pitcher bats in front of him is 94 by Rollins back in 2007. Applaud Ellsbury is going at a pace for 103, wonder though if they'll rest him towards the end if they have a playoff berth clinched.

The winning margin?

A home run by the Phils pitcher, Cliff Lee, off of Ted Lilly. Shake Head

The Dodgers must lead the league in giving up home runs to opposing teams pitchers... bleh
