Actress Ishihara Satomi recently disguised herself as a female detective for her role in the drama �gBull Doctor�g. It was a new challenge for her and a big honor to act alongside Esumi Makiko, but early comments posted on the anonymous Japanese Internet community board �e2ch�e were filled with severe criticism regarding her performance.
Many people left comments such as, �gI have never seen a detective like that!�h or �gThe way she talks is really strange!�h
According to a recent article in the daily tabloid �ecyzo�e, Ishihara reportedly checked out the topics for her drama quite often and started to take all those criticisms to heart.
A person with knowledge from a TV network told the tabloid that those remarks really seem to have discouraged Ishihara. As a result, she started questioning her own abilities and tried to consult Esumi everyday. Being her senior and also having a relationship similar to an older sister to Ishihara, Esumi tried her best to encourage her – �gEverything is fine. You are a great actress!�h Fortunately this support helped Ishihara to get over those harsh comments.
In the end it seems like those comments actually had a positive effect on Ishihara, because many people have noticed that her acting notably improved throughout the season. Some people even said that it was her development, that helped making it the second most-successful drama of the summer season, and reaching such high viewer ratings with the final episode. It wouldn�ft even be surprising to see a continuation of this drama someday.
In this case the harsh comments on �e2ch�f might have had a positive effect, but who knows how other actors feel about the, often excessive, criticism posted by people online.

Next month, Ishihara Satomi will star in an NHK drama special called �gShimei to Tamashii no Limit,�h adapted from a novel by popular mystery author Higashino Keigo.
The suspenseful story is set in the heart surgery department of a university hospital. Ishihara plays a medical trainee aiming to become a heart surgeon, while holding doubts about the real cause of the death of her father, who died during an operation.
Tachi Hiroshi will play the role of her professor. The supporting cast also features Hayami Mocomichi, Kurashina Kana, Fukikoshi Mitsuru, Nakao Akira, Nagashima Toshiyuki, and Takashima Reiko.
NHK will broadcast �gShimei to Tamashii no Limit�h as a two-part series on November 5 and November 12.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with her acting. The script was terrible but that's not her fault!

The cast of NHK�fs upcoming drama special �gShimei to Tamashii no Limit�g, with actress Ishihara Satomi as the protagonist, had a short break from filming to hold a little press conference in the full-blown operating room that was built for the drama.
Aside from the room itself, the team also prepared real medical equipment, including a 80 million Yen (1 million USD) heart-lung machine. Counting all the equipment, the whole set is worth 200 million Yen (2.6 million USD).
Ishihara was especially impressed to be able to work in such an environment. She said, �gThis is such an amazing set. I�fm happy that I�fm able to participate in such a wonderful production.�h
All the reporters were excited to see such a realistic operating room inside the studio of NHK as well. The staff of the studio urged them to be very careful, �gEverything in here is real, so you absolutely may not touch or damage anything.�h

�gShimei to Tamashii no Limit�h is a thrilling and exciting medical drama based on a novel by Higashino Keigo. Set at the cardiovascular surgery department of a university hospital, it tells the story of a medical intern (Ishihara), who tries to find out the whole truth behind the circumstances that led to the death of her father during a surgical operation. Tachi plays the professor that performed the operation on her father.
Also appearing in the special drama are Hayami Mokomichi as a mysterious engineer who sneaks into the hospital, Kurashina Kana who plays the engineer�fs girlfriend, and Takashima Reiko who plays the mother of the protagonist.
Ishihara commented with a smile, �gI once heard how doctors practice the �eknotting of the thread�f and started practicing it myself at home and at work in order to get into my role. When the director saw me doing that, he actually included it as one of the first scenes (in the drama). It feels like all the hard work eventually paid off.�h
Tachi, on the other hand, put things bluntly and said, �gI�fm never practicing anything.�h The whole set was filled with laughter.
NHK is going to air the first episode of �gShimei to Tamashii no Limit�h on November 5th and the second on November 12th, both times during the prime time at 9 pm.

Sato Takeru, Ishihara Satomi to star on stage in �gRomeo and Juliet�h

Sato Takeru and Ishihara Satomi will play the leads in a new production of William Shakespeare�fs �gRomeo and Juliet.�h For Sato, this will be his first time acting in a stage play, let alone starring in one. This play also marks the first time that Sato and Ishihara will work together.
Although the role of Romeo would put a lot of pressure on a newcomer, Sato has been preparing himself for the stage since about two years ago. He has occasionally taken trips to England for theatrical training, and he has also participated in numerous acting workshops.
The play is being directed by English director Jonathan Munby, a rising star in the theatrical world who has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company. This will be Munby�fs first time putting on a production in Japan.
Besides Sato and Ishihara, the cast features Kaku Kento as Tybalt, Suda Masaki as Mercutio, and Onoue Hiroyuki as Benvolio. Nobuo Kyo, Hashimoto Satoshi, Kimura Midoriko, Hasegawa Hatsunori, Ishino Mako, and singer Tawata Emi are also part of the cast.
Performances will be held at the Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo from May 2 to May 27, 2012, and at the Theater BRAVA in Osaka from May 31 to June 10, 2012.

Toyota, Yonekura, Ishihara & Kutsuna get awarded for their beautiful legs

On the 19th, the four actresses Toyota Maho (44), Yonekura Ryoko (36), Ishihara Satomi (24), and Kutsuna Shiori (18) received the �gClarino Beautiful Legs Award 2011�h for their healthy and beautiful legs.
It was the ninth time that �eClarino�e, a leather brand of kuraray, honored four female celebrities from different age groups with the said award.
Yonekura revealed the secret to her beautiful legs and said, �gDue to work I have a pretty irregular life and can�ft always pay attention to the condition of my legs, but I try to get massages, exercise a lot, and use creams very often.�h She was wearing a pretty mini-dress and commented, �gI�fm going to film at a wine bar (for the drama �gHUNTER�g) after this, so this dress should be just right.�h
This year it was the first time they gave the award to a teenager and Kutsuna was the first to receive one. She commented, �gI moved around a lot during my childhood, so I�fve got some muscles early on. I�fd like to pay more attention to the care (of my legs) from now on, since I�fll be turning twenty very soon.�h
Ishihara commented, �gUsing this award as a motivation, maybe I can improve on my physical strength and not become tired so quick anymore.�h

Ishihara Satomi attends handshake event for her calendar with a hoarse voice
On November 12th, actress Ishihara Satomi attended a handshake event to celebrate the release of her 2012 calendar.
At the press interview prior to the event, reporters immediately noticed her hoarse voice. She apologized to them right away, �gI�fm sorry, but it seems like my throat hasn�ft gotten better yet�c I had a bit of a cold. The cold is already gone, but when I woke up yesterday, my voice was hoarse all of a sudden. I was surprised.�h
Ishihara�fs new calendar has the theme, �ea slice of an ordinary life�f. The pictures were taken in Tokyo sometime in September. It�fs filled with various innocent and mature expressions of the actress, showing all her different charms. The pictures range from a rare swimsuit picture by the pool to her riding a bicycle with a simple outfit.
Swimsuit pictures haven�ft really been a part of her portfolio so far, but you can basically only see her face and her cute expression in that particular shot (see above). She bashfully said, �gI still would have chosen a different picture, but my manager said that this is what my fans want to see�c It�fs a page for all of my fans.�h
However, her favorite picture is the one with the bicycle. �gI received the bicycle as a present during the shooting,�h she said, �gI was really happy about that and that�fs why it�fs my favorite picture.�h
About the calendar in general, she commented, �gThe staff was already very familiar to me and thus I was able to completely relax during the shooting. Anything special that happened during the shooting? Not really.�h
Further she was asked, whether she noticed anything special and new about herself, and she replied, �gI immediately make friends when I meet new people. I�fm not shy in front of strangers anymore. Some people even say that I�fm quite frank now.�h
She was also asked about her love-life. She explained, �gI don�ft know. The right time to fall in love simply doesn�ft seem to come to me. My favorite type? A person who can burst out laughing about really anything. He has to have the same humor as me.�h
Ishihara is also one of the few people who happen to have their birthday on Christmas Eve. She will have to work that day again this year, but she still cheerfully commented, �gI�fll enjoy the work and hope that it will still become a very nice day.�h
Lastly, her resolution for next year, �gNot to worsen my physical condition. Health comes first.�h
