Or quite possibly we may remove all movies and just stick to dramas.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Seems like d-addicts would benefit from focusing on TV dramas (more community focus). Let suprnova take the MPAA heat! Smile

More details on the licensing issue... The facts are:

1. The MPAA only has jurisdiction on intellectual properties owned by their clients. Their client list is listed in Ruroshin's letter mentioned earlier. These include Disney, Universal Pictures, MGM, Paramount, etc.

2. The MPAA also enforces properties owned by their clients' subs, such as Miramax, and many other studios.

3. Your ISP will receive a letter by the MPAA if you just list a link to the item on your server. You don't have to actually have the movie sitting on your server. In otherwords, the MPAA is trying to outlaw the concept of linking to license infringing items, such as what d-addicts was doing.

Hope that enlightens some people...

Which movies are licensed? How can I know. Hmm should get out of that U.S. based server. German ones are safe I think. I don't even live in the U.S. FYI Angry

i support the idea of just putting dramas.

Although linking to movies is still a grey area. let's not put more problems for ruro. movies and such can be found at alot of other places.

Read the link Ruroshin gave Smile

You have to be very careful with movies, in this case it looks like at least a couple of Hong Kong movies that were licensed for US distribution.

There was also a slashdot story a couple weeks ago about the MPAA going after BitTorrent end users too. BitTorrent is not anonymous and the MPAA is apparently quite aggressive in their detective work.

It would seem the wise thing to do would be to avoid movies altogether. There are already plenty of sites that carry Asian movies.

To be honest i'm surprised this has not happened sooner (or has it?)
Someone posted a torrent for the new Zaitochi and removed it after myself and someone else had issues with it. Not to mention the Lone wolf movies, and some of the Akira kurosawa movies that have previously been avaliable.

Is it not possible to make all new torrent submissions for non-dramas moderated?

www.imdb.com If the movie has a certificate rating then its obviously licensed.

Although I will point out licensing should be judged on english sub/dub not just if its avaliable in america. Just because it's out in uk/australia and not america for example does not make it any less of a bad thing. It doesnt matter where you live or what server - don't even try to make it sound like they are the ones in the wrong Crazy

me too! i hate watching stuff on my PC...id rather sit in my couch and actually use my dvd player...

the american studios only recently licensed the rights to shaolin soccer and iron monkey (i believe they planning to release shaolin soccer - through miramax). thats probably why they tracked it down...

anyway, this kinda sucks...d-addicts was really the best place to get K-movies and some j-movies that i havent already bought...

it wouldnt be so bad if it was just doramas though...at least this copyright issue shouldnt (plausibly) come up again

Hehe, and the irony was that those 2 movies were posted by the same person and created a flaming thread on top of that.

But d-addicts being down is not funny at all Sad

ouch this really sucks. I hope the site will be ok. Yea if the movie section is what's causing the problem then maybe ditch it? It will save bandwidth and all and a lot of the movies can be found on other sites so it's not like they're unavailable or anything. I'm mainly talking about HK movies and stuff not Iron Monkey and Shaolin Soccer

A bad joke perhaps. They brought the whole server down for one domain being accused. There were other domain and sites on that server that had nothing to do with d-addict and they had to suffer to.

Gah stupid ISP, they should of just disabled the domain account!

I would think a responsible ISP would first contact you to see if the situation could be remedied.

I guess the big bad MPAA scared 'em and they jumped.

Gonna find a new ISP? Smile

Already found a new one Smile

but I won't be moving the main site, too much headache, I'll just setup a new tracker on the new provider.

The new provider surposedly has more backbone... we'll see.

movie + music = Beaten

so i actually don't understand the fact ppl give the stick to get beaten Sweat

i love d-addicts and for dorama only (i never dl movies nor music, i got one movie on cd-r only and it was because i didn't find the dvd where i live)

D-addicts is the dorama sanctuary, it promotes everyday great dramas, able ppl to discover things that they would never have known otherwise, and it's great. I really think we should avoid any movie in the future! As i read before there is really enough site with movie and music out there, asian movie already has it's community and a big one. i believe we are not needed, isn't it?... (sites, irc, dc...)

i hope to see our dorama community straighten back to our MAIN passion (j-hk-k-c-dorama)

I hope to see d-addicts back ^___________^

ps: i'm wondering if the ppl dl those 2 files got a nice letter too... Rolling eyes avoiding movies = avoiding troubles for the users as well

ganbate ! ! ! ...(^_^)//
