Anyone watch the new Iron Chef America? First episode was Bobby Flay vs Iron Chef Sakai. Guess who won?

Kinda funny, seems like a parody of Iron Chef from SNL.

You might be thinking of Iron Chef USA which was hosted by William Shatner. That show was horrible.

There's been a lot of outrage about the Flay vs. Sakai match. Most people agree that Sakai won his match. Fixed? :|

Iron Chef America is a separate series made by Food Network in which the original Fuji TV Iron Chefs competed as challengers. Of course, I've watched the episodes during last weekend and the scoring seemed so suspect as if they were rigged. Too much bias in favor of Flay because he's the "ace" of Food TV... If Julia Child were still alive, I'm sure she would have given the W to Morimoto and Sakai.

Home field advantage yo. They seem to make an effort to equalize the play, as, it were, but it's all too predictable. In the Batali/Morimoto battle, Batali did make more imaginative dishes, but still... Sad

Without Alton Brown, it would be worthless to watch. And I'm surprised that Morimoto still needs a translator... Rolling eyes

he prolly doesn't, but america may not be able to wade thru his thick accent. Thus, the translator is more for the american public than his comprehension of the english language.

Just saw the first episode of Iron Chef America this weekend. What a lousy show! Shake Head Not only was the decision decidedly biased toward Flay, but the commentators, the judges, etc. all were biased as well. Angry Also saw just a few minutes of the second episode and that wasn't any better. There was one segment in which the announcer interviews Flay regarding Morimoto and the only compliment Flay had was to say that Morimoto would come up with something different, unusual at the end of his cooking time - nothing about how talented Morimoto is, what his strengths are, why he's an Iron Chef, etc. Just, I'm sure he'll surprise us.

No way I'm watching that show again! Angry

The "judges" on Iron Chef America seem so dry. All their comments are the same. This is nice, or I like it or this is different blah blah blah. Sleeping I wish they would do some criticizing like in the original Iron Chef.

The most suspect score? Sakai lost on plating. How does the Delacroix of French Cooking lose to Bobby Flay's skillet plating? For god's sake, how does the man who has never lost a fish battle lose to Flay? Moreover, they called into question Sakai's integrity by stating that he would complain like ole Bobby Flay complained on the original Iron Chef.

Somehow Morimoto lost on originality, even though the judges were all like, "I've never seen anything like this before."

It was definitely rigged in the sense that it was a "passing of the torch" to the American Iron Chefs. Sakai got to show off his grape sauce, so maybe that was his payment for the show.

Improvements to the show?

1. Give the chairman some personality. There's no excitement in his voice or anything, and he just comes off as very stiff.

2. Put some more commentators. Banter between a few people fill up the silences and keeps the audience guessing...as well as fill-out knowledge deficits that the announcer has. Maybe an asian food expert, since the announcer doesn't seem to know too much.

3. Get a knowledgeable floor guy. Kevin just doesn't do it. He needs to find out what ingredients are in there.

4. There is no warmth in Kitchen Stadium. Looks too high tech and cold. Maybe change the lighting or make it seem less empty by putting in an audience you can see.

I agree! Angry Even with the original Iron Chef..when the Iron Chef went to Italy or other places..and the judges would be the people from that country and they always voted for their chef Angry

'Ryori no Tetsujin' (Iron Chef) returns to Japanese TV in October

Fuji TV recently held a press conference to present their October TV program lineup and announced that popular cooking battle variety program gRyori no Tetsujinh will be making a comeback on Japanese TV screens as gIron Chefh. The program will be aired every Friday from 7:57pm to 8:54pm.

The programfs first incarnation ran for 6 years, starting in 1993, and achieved great viewership ratings despite its nighttime 11pm slot. Ratings averaged 14.8% and reached 23.2% at its peak. The programfs regular chefs, called gIron Chefsh faced off against challenger chefs in an intense battle held in the kitchen studio. The winner was decided by a panel of judges. In 2004, the show format was bought by an American company and gIron Chefh was broadcast in 80 countries.

At the press conference, Fuji TV expressed that gIron Chefh is making a triumphant return. Director of production, Arai Akihiro remarked, gThe show traveled the world, and has been polished up and weeded out. The new eIron cheff will be the world version that we can show now in the year 2012.h

More details about the participants appearing in gIron Chefh will be announced at a later date.
