but i have a friend who does not bother about his appearance or the looks of his inner soul. and it gets very irritating [worst than me in fact.]. he just doesn't know when to shut up and he always gives horrible remarks.

as for vanity, i don't see anything wrong with it. i see it as a way for them obtaining their own self-sonfidence. BUT vanity tends to leave mix impressions on people. period.

In my opinion, we should not judge a person by just knowing that person for a couple of months unless we hang out with that person often. if we want to, then by all means go ahead. noone's stopping you. but this makes another person judge your actions. and so forth. it's like a cycle. BUT judging can be good as it also points out some things in society that are morally wrong.

and, there ARE selfless people in this world. just not many...

interesting discussion here. Sweat

Exactly! Thank you for being actually open-minded. See I was only trying to say that pursuit of beauty may be a way of coping for many people - to cure their aching soul. I never said blind-pursuit of beauty is right. However, it is also wrong to claim that all people who pursuit beauty are shallow, right? Just like you said, we cannot judge people simply by one action, we need to know them more and understand them more. Even then, we can still only comment, not judge. For only people themselves have the right to judge their own soul.

Oh, and yes, there definitely are selfless people in this world, very very few, those who are are truly the ones with the aching souls.

Me being a flawed person... allows me to admit to lying...

as in "I did not leave quietly". Smile

Once again... you've failed to read... so I'll rehash through these quotes.

You are not just saying your recognize it. You are giving it more unnecessary negative air than it needs.

I recognize it. I defined it. You don't like it. You argue against it. it's a fair shake. It's only unnecessary because you do not like it.

Quote:
I am not trying to defend this topic, I am just sick and tired of self-righteous crap like this whenever any one mentions the word pretty or beauty or anything similar to it.

Once again... it's a load of crap. Re-read my 2nd post in this thread and tell me where "self-righteous" factored into any of it in regards to the word "beauty".

Quote:
You are calling me guilty? Vanity is one of my virtues

If vanity as it relates to the definition I PLAINLY posted above is one of your virtues... then yes, I'm calling you guilty.

But don't fret... you're not the only one.

Quote:
and my souls is more prominent and experienced than most. Does that make me shallow? To think that all people who pursue beauty is shallow is just pure ignorance.

Once again... you haven't read what I wrote for your blind and defiant defensiveness.

re-read my 2nd post in this thread.

Quote:
Question yourself before you accuse others.

Why should I question myself when I admit to being flawed. I am just not vain. Wink

Quote:
Just to point out here, I did not mean to make this as a personal attack on you, merely a more aggressive counter argument against YOUR OPINION.

Oh I don't care about all that hoop-la...

Quote:
You obviously have taken it the wrong way and have returned what you thought I was giving to you.

No... I took it the right way. I am just argumentative and stubborn (2 of my flaws Wink )

Quote:
Such provincial minded argument has no value for anyone. I have no more words for you on this topic.

seeing as you figured you had the last word when I pseudo-announced "leaving the thread" it really doesn't matter either way.

And please spare me with all the "aching soul" stuff and other relative intangibles as they relate to vanity.

I LIKE MARTHA STEWART! HER BLANKIES AND COMFORTERS RULE! Tell you something . . . if Martha Stewart was a man, NONE OF WHAT TRANSPIRED WOULDA' HAPPENED. And, heck, what's happening to her now parallels what happened to Brownie Wise (she who popularized and brought Tupperware to megamoney start-up heaven by starting to sell 'em through Tupperware parties at home; let ya'll's look up the rest of the story).

Both women are beautiful.

What happened to them is ugly.

But, you know what? Stewart's situation might be taking a turn for the better.

I'll let ya'll look that one up too.

Oh, wait, but to answer the question, why I like to be pretty?

Hmmm . . . well, I guess 'cause BEING SMART AND HANDSOME JUST AIN'T ENOUGH, YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAH, I'LL BE HERE ALL WEEK, FOLKS!

Well, I think people's anger towards Martha Stewart stems mostly from people's inherent anger towards their mothers because of her image, Wink. I can't even imagine if she was a man and had such home products and house-wife image, good one, hahaha, hehe . Good to hear that her situation took a better turn. Who doesn't make mistakes? Just because she is famous, does not mean she should be the vessel of everyone else's anger.

P.S. If everything can be determined by Dictionary definition, then there would not be so many untreatable problems in this world.

I wasn't talking about "everything" I was talking about vanity.

You want to start an etymologically oriented semantics argument now too?

AND if everything is so clearly defined, black and white, people throughout the ages would not have suffered so.

Dude... quit the poetic hyperbole and stick to the point.

You said vanity was a virtue of yours.

You could've easily as said "I like to look good and I try hard." and left it at that...

but you elected to be bombastic and quite verbose as to why the 'aching souls' of the world aim high in order to be vain...

then you argued things I did not in order to add leverage to your defense to arguments that were, up to that point, non-existent.

Why make it so complicated and lofty? Pretty ones possess greater chances of getting laid. That leads to reproduction. As it is natural instinct to reproduce and being pretty is the increasing chances factor thus it is a matter of survival. Good looking thirve, ugly are doing not so well.

on the topic of good looking vs ugly, i'm getting a little annoyed with all these all these "extreme makeover" reality shows. i first watch it in JPN about 5 yrs ago and it was ok then, but when the U.S. brought out all these shows like extreme make-over, the swan, etc. it is start wear out its welcome. you know what i'd like to watch? a show that takes a good looking person/even halfway decent looking person, and just do an ugly make-over on him/her and make them look heinous, and see how it affects his/her life.

damn, that's a pretty good idea! if such a reality show exist, then i wouldn't mind watching the first episode of it for the heck of it.

but seriously, enough of reality tv shows. if they want a reality tv show, make it sensible pls like survivor or the amazing race. at least those shows make sense IMO. shows like "there's something about miriam" is just down right LOW.

I like being pretty because after a rough day at school it's nice to come home, sit back, relax, and unwind in front of the mirror.
