Sengoku period : 1392 - 1603
The Warring States period (퍑, sengoku jidai) was a time of social upheaval, political intrigue, and nearly constant military conflict in Japan that lasted roughly from the middle 15th to the early 17th century.
The Emperor before that time was consider as a puppet, Thus he attempted to reverse the situation in 1221, a rebellion (called the Jokyu War), but failed to wrest power away from the shogunate(Hojo clan).
A second attempt was made by the Imperial court in 1331 under the rule of the Emperor Go-Daigo, and was much more successful, particularly as Kamakura's most powerful general, Ashikaga Takauji, chose to side with the Emperor and also because of the strain on the military and the financial expenditures weakened the regime considerably.
Ashikaga Takauji ended the Kamakura military governments in 1333 with the defeat and destruction of the Hojo clan and promptly assumed the position of shogun himself, establishing the Ashikaga shogunate.
Ashikaga shogunate had retained the structure of the Kamakura bakufu and instituted a warrior government based on the same social economic rights and obligations established by the Hojo clan. And in 1392, December 16, Emperor Go-Kameyama of Japan abdicates in favor of rival claimant Go-Komatsu, in order to end the nanboku-cho period of conflict between the Northern and Southern imperial courts.
Arrival of the Sengoku period.

Brilliant!!!Thanks for the research!!!But honestly speaking...I am not really clear with the affairs in Japan before 1550...all I know about it is after Portuguese Christian Francis Xavier came to Kyushu Island and started introducing firearms around. There's a specific name for this era between 1573-1603...I'll change the title to that instead. It's more clear...
@bmwracer:Thanks for understanding my message!I just feel that it's pretty ironic that despite this being a Japan-based website there's nothing about its history anywhere. So I decided to start this. Thanks again for understanding.
@Jaegal_Maut:I'll consider your idea about making this a thread open to any periods of Japan's history seriously.Just that this is the most famous history on Japan, and the Kamakura shogunate ruled by Minamoto Yorimoto is not as famous. The Edo and Meiji era had more internal wars than external ones...so it's pretty dull even to someone like me.So I'll focus more on this history at the moment.

why i had a feeling you will start a medical thread
Back to wat i left :
it was the decisive Battle of Minatogawa in 1336, fought between Japanese forces led by Kusunoki Masashige and Nitta Yoshisada, while the Ashikaga were led by Ashikaga Takauji. The Ashikaga were victorious, Takauji defeated Yoshisada and killed Masashige, allowing him to seize Kyoto for good. And Kusunoki committed suicide.
Do you Know :
In 1404, Chinese Ming Dynasty sent Zheng He to Japan in a diplomatic trip. Ming Dynasty entitled the 3rd shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, "The King of Japan" and presented him a "The King of Japan" seal, which he accepted. Yoshimitsu replied in letter ending with "The King of Japan, your vassal Yoshimitsu."("{Cb义满").
Question for you :
Who is the one destroyed The Ashikaga clan ? He usually plays the role of a villain and often shows signs of or is implicitly stated to possess evil powers of some sort or be allied with demons, appearing in manga, anime, and video games. _________________

I think that's question directed to me.It should be Oda Nobunaga. He used Ashikaga Yoshihide, installing him as a shogun but secretly buliding his power behind his back. Then once he got enough backing and support from the ppl he disposed of him quickly and easily.
The demonic character that he got isn't fake.Actually he was called the 6th Demon Emperor...which he accepeted it happily!?!Why did he accept that...and why was it the 6th that I don't know...

Hey no problem pal!!!You learned about the Three Kingdoms by DW,so it's all possible for you to do the same about SW!!!
So just to get you started...which character do you like most in it and why?No I am not trying to get out of topic here.Just starting from the basics, and that's the video game fanchise!

oh yes, it was Oda Nobunaga. but i dunno he was called the Demon Emperor
hmmm... maybe it's because he waged war even against Buddhists when they did not obey him. And killed thousands and thousands of ppls, even those innocent, mostly women and children.
Do you know :
Oda Nobuhide, the father of Oda Nobunaga, kidnapped Tokugawa Ieyasu who was just six years old at the time in 1548, when the Oda clan invaded Mikawa. In order to defend himself from the Imagawa clan, he held Ieyasu for the next three years at the Manshoji Temple in Nagoya.
Who will Expected that :
14 years later, Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu joined forces and formed the most powerful alliance, controlling almost half of Japan. _________________

Such a pity.Japan's history is pretty interesting. But your meaning of modern Japan history...does it focus on events after the Meiji era?If so then I can't help much...don't really like any history concerning firearms.Muskets are ok but not guns...

Oda Nobunaga and Ieyasu Tokugawa's alliance looks more like a surrender to me.Tokugawa's at the mercy of Nobunaga. The amount of armies he had that time was laughable and the land that he owned, which is also his hometown,Mikawa is a small plot of land that focused on argiculture. So without Nobunaga's help...Ieyesu might not survive that long.
One battle that almost took the life of Ieyasu was the battle of Mikawa in 1572.The Tiger Of Kai,Takeda Shingen in an attempt to march to the capital Yamashiro(present-day Kyoto),took the lower route there, which means he must bypass the Ieyasu-owned Mikawa,Nobunaga's Owari,Mino and Owmi before he can reach the capital.
So Ieyesu fought with Shingen.Ieyasu thought he could win Shingen if he used the right strategy. But what happens in the end?Ieyasu was near to total annaliation.Even the two generals in Takigawa and Sakuma Nobumori of Nobunaga's camp that came as reinforcements were beaten soundly back to Owari.Ieyasu was asked to hold Shingen for 15 more days before Nobunaga can send more reinforcements. But problem is...Nobunaga knew that Ieyesu can't hold Shingen's troops for even half a day,let alone 15 days. But as luck had it...one assassin managed to snipe Shingen and he died due to infection.Lucky boy Tokugawa is...
@Jaegal_Maut:Date Masamune....ok he had a similar characteristic as the game protrayed him.Proud,over-confident and stubborn.Just because he was the strongest in Honshu Island(which is obvious, since he was the only daimyo in that island),he thought he's good enough to conque Japan. And so he fought with Toyotomi Hideyoshi of all ppl.And it's good night to him.Didn't took long before he surredered.

wiki:
"Masamune is known for a few things that made him stand out from other daimyo of the time. In particular, his famous crescent moon bearing helmet gained him a fearsome reputation. As a child he lost his eye from smallpox, pulling the infected organ out of his skull himself. Because of his missing eye, his own mother condemned him as being unfit to take over as clan leader and began favoring his brother as heir. According to some historians, she tried to poison him one night while serving him dinner. Masamune consequently killed his own brother in order to come to power, stating "I thought that we could get along as brothers, perhaps in the next life..."

@kami_kaze:It depends how you look at it.Most of the events are real and like any other game,SW creates some fictional events that did not happen in the real history. But it's a good stepping stone if you are interested in Japan's ancient history.
@Jaegal_Maut:Brave yeah no doubt about that. But that's the best attribute about him.Brute strength and courage.Going to war at a tender age of 17 shows how brave he is but picking Hideyoshi as an opponent...that's a bad bad move to me.But luckily Hideyoshi value talent and spared his life.
The Date Clan...I don't know much about them.Their biggest rival is the Mogami clan, which is stationed just beside their land.I'll learn more about them...
