Yeah, it's kind of weird too. You would've thought that 90% of the MM fans would dig AKB48 too. Maybe the problem is loyalty to MM. And that's a good point. Because once you try out AKB48 a few times, you realize it's not as childish and ridiculous as Morning Musume.
gosh, i just love their music...AKB48, a lot better than MM, not that MM is bad or anything, i am just more into AKB48's music, and i've been listening to them all the time now.

Both "My Dear Teacher" and "AKB48" are untouchable. It's cool when they use their bodies to spell out 'A' and 'K' and 'B' on stage and continue dancing away.

well, if not dig AKB48, atleast they be open to listening, checking them out and considering them as decent to good music. Honestly, cute-ness aside, i enjoyed they music. and of course their cuteness took me, and i was overwhelmed, not even in an MM sorta of way.
loyalty, that is how i see it, and popularity, that MM, H!P has since the late 1990's. AKB48 is relatively small, in comparison, but growing more and more popular, but they still haven't achieved the popularity status that MM has, or had. I am hoping that works to my advantage and i will get to see them in concert....MM must be tough to see in concert. My loyalty to MM has always been tied to Ai Takahashi, and maybe a little to Risa Niigaki. Other than that, they are ok, and i always felt that i wasn't that much into them as much as the other guys/gals on the thread.

I just watched part of the AKB48 - Team A 2nd Stage - Aitakatta, concert, and these girls can dance!, and they are such good singers, and performers.
They probably are gaining popularity, but they don't get the publicity that MM gets. It is probably not a fair comparison, as they are completely different, but it is amazing the singing, choreography, and talent that these girls have. I am sure they were screened and picked well, from various judges and the guy behind it all, who created AKB48.
I would put up screen caps, but the videos are not of great quality, and not dvd-quality. I am sure i will find some screen caps elsewhere to post pix of AKB48. Until then, enjoy what is already been posted.
Two people have mentioned that the choreographer for AKB48 is the same as the lady that does that same job for MM. One of the guys that mentioned that is none other than reyfer. So, it's no wonder the dancing is absolutely great!
BTW, my buddy Alienpyon from H!O came back from Japan today. In 10 days he saw 2 Morning Musume concerts and 1 AKB48 concert.
