Almost a week away from it starting. Can't wait. Making thread now since I'm on a roll with those. Inoue Mao and Hiraoka Yuuta how can I not be excited? I like both alot!
In this romantic comedy, Mao Inoue stars as a selfish girl named Mio Fukunaga. Because of a serious illness, she lives in the U.S. for medical treatment. Before undergoing an important operation, she returns to Japan, where she meets the older brother she has been separated from since her parents' divorce. She finds Kazuki (Hideaki Ito) leading a good-for-nothing life, but he shows his seriousness when he resolves to find a way for Mio to experience her first kiss. Yuta Hiraoka plays the love interest, a rookie doctor.
Inoue Mao as Fukunaga Mio
Ito Hideaki as Kano Ikki
Hiraoka Yuuta as Yuuki Akio
Matsuyuki Yasuko as Takagi Renko
Gekidan Hitori as Shindo Ichiryu
Abe Sadayo as Nikaido Masaru
Takenaka Naoto as Banba Dai
Natsuki Mari as Fukunaga Rieko
Sakai Wakana as Saito Haruna
Warabino Tomoya as Shohata Takeo

Epi 1 is PRETTY GOOD!!
I LOVED Inoue Mao's coquettish acting!! So different than Makino!! I esp. love how she speaks so fast, girly and kawaii!! haha... I really enjoy her acting!
Ito Hideaki's character and acting is very enjoyable too! I love their chemistry as siblings, their bickerings are funny!
The first ep's plot was pretty good and got me glued to the TV. But by the end of the episode, Ito Hideaki's character's last line, when he recite his goal, kinda disappoint me... it felt like "what? so the whole drama would be about that?".
Kinda disappointed with Hiraoka Yuuta's character... with that kind of character, don't think will build a good love story with Inoue Mao's character...and I don't think Mao and Yuuta would have a good chemistry, either.
I'm just hoping more story on Ito Hideaki and Inoue Mao as siblings. Hopefully....
The scriptwriter is Inoue Yumiko, who also wrote GOOD LUCK and 14sai no Haha. _________________ "Let's create a world without war together"

Just watched the 1st episode. Of all this season's dramas that have aired, I've watched all except LIFE and Kikujirou Tosaki 3. I'm not a fan of both the female and male lead, but I don't dislike them either. IMHO this is by far the most boring, corny, tacky, cliche'd drama of all w/ ridiculously brain-dead dialog thrown in. Others like Ushi ni Negai wo and Yamada Tarou I'm still willing to give it another 2 episodes; Jigoku no Sata isn't too bad but it's just a rehash of old themes. This one I can emphatically say watching it is like having a root canal (and this is supposed to be Fuji's most hyped drama this season??? ). This just goes to show how high rating doesn't always correlate positively with the quality of a drama.

Wouldn't be the first time.
And it won't be the last.

Pretty harsh words there, eh? Well, I've just finished the first episode and I enjoyed it. I really like the casting (Yay, for the absence of idols) and the acting is pretty good, with Inoue Mao being a standout (This is the first drama I've seen her in). She really immerses herself in her role and I particularly enjoy the way she was able to interchange between being funny and serious very smoothly.
It's true that the 'girl with the terminal disease' drama is overdone. But what makes First Kiss different from the others is Inoue Mao's character. She's not like your typical weak and fragile female protagonist. Instead, she's so spoilt and even uses her illness to her advantage.
Yes, the plot of this drama isn't really terribly exciting. But, if you're familiar with Inoue Yumiko's style of writing, her dramas tend to more 'human'. She focuses more on the development of characters and their relationships.
I really don't agree on the corny part. If you're talking about corniness, nothing tops those manga adapted drama filled with pretty boys/girls. No offence to those who like them, but I find them to be too cheesy, corny and anime-ish/cartoonish for my liking.
Just to end off, based on all the first episodes, First Kiss is my favourite drama so far, out of the few I've watched this season.
