We're having Anime Weekend Atlanta here soon (around September I think) and you know it's going to be filled with cosplayers. I was just wondering if any of you gals/guys know what it would be like at a convention (if I can call it that) like that? I've never been but some of my friend's friends go to those sometime and get tons of freebies. I hear someone at my school is cosplaying as Mai Shuranai (*rolls eyes)... it's about $30 in advance and $40-$50 at the door... think it's worth it? Give me your opinion!
Oh yeah... anyone been to DragonCon? Let me know about that, too.

I've never been to an animecon myself, even though we don't have those big events like you guys have (here in Holland) there seems to be annual con, but the price is like freeking expensive, nearly $70! and there's nothing to do with really expensive merchandise/dvds etc. I'm not "otaku" enough to go to those really..i do love anime, mechas and what not, but I'm far from a "densha no otoko"
I've love to go a proper animecon someday, and probably laugh at those freeky cosplayers. don't get me wrong, I have nothing against them in general, but far too many look ridiculous (and don't know it)

I totally agree with you. That's why I wanted to go. HAHAHA. ^___^;;... I'm just not... that big of an anime freak. I do love Japanese culture in general but anime is not a big part of that. *shrugs... we'll see if my funds do allow my entrance to such an event. I want to see how ridiculous some people look but some I must say, look pretty darn good cosplaying (that's a very small percentage in my opinion).

I have been to many conventions. It just depends on what you like. I don't follow anime too much anymore, but a lot of conventions include other things like Asian live-action films, video games, concerts, pop-culture, martial arts.
AWA is a fairly big convention. Some big conventions are okay but you spend a lot of time waiting in line for something. I like the smaller conventions because you don't have to wait in lines and can still get into events that you want to see. After you go to a lot of cons, you make a lot of friends and then you just go to cons to hang out with the friends that you have made and don't really care about any of the programming. Small conventions feel like you're on vacation. _________________

Actually, I like cosplay. It's funny and cool to see all that people dressed as their favorite characters.
I went to an animecon two weeks ago and saw lots of cosplayers with cool costumes ... The coolest one was a Mr. Satan (Dragon Ball Z's character) cosplay. His hair and mostache were real and he looked to be about 35-40 years old ... _________________
im glad geru-sama started subbing latest episodes of one piece
How do you like the geru-sama releases? I haven't tried them yet ... I'm still behind on my Kaizoku Fansubs backlog One Piece is so silly ... one of my guilty pleasures I suppose. I remember watching the drama "Nanisama" a while ago, and in one episode the little kid starts humming the one piece opening theme, I thought that was pretty funny.

I must admit I love checking out the cosplay pics that people post. I did buy a great Kakashi costume from Naruto but its too warm for Florida on Halloween and Ive never been to a anime con of any kind.
But I did go to Halloween as Toshiie from Toshiie to Matsu last year
And it was FUN!!!!

You went to Animecon? Nice! I couldnLt go. I worked at Anime Friends and Anime Family at Rio. And ILm one of the cosplay contest judges for next conventions such as Anime Family II and Ressaca Friends
That Mr. Satan won the cosplay contest on Anime Dreams
Hope we can meet at some Con here in Sao Paulo.

Talk to Aho... He's the one who merged it, I think.
im not blaming on aho cuz cosplay is part of anime, i do wonder where the cosplay discussion has gone thats all
- geru-sama fansubs are pretty good, but i like K-F's version when luffy goes.. "gumo gumo no...."
- super no.1's right, i guess if you really want to go, go for it, but paying $30-50 admission is a bit too much imho, how're the events in the con there? if they have lots of good guest of honors, and you dont wanna pay that much for every single long line. you'll be more frustrated than having fun. but then again, since you've never to one, try.. and see how it goes from there. you dont have to rely on other people's comments. experience is the key _________________

i miss school rumble too, have u seen azumanga daioh? probably so huh? i find ichigo mashimaro very funny and cute, but that might not be as exciting as school rumble. im reading a manga called Yotsuba&! and its the same author who did azumanga, and just about as pointless like the rest of em, but theyre very funny.
yotsuba is as cute as chiyo-chan, so energetic like tomo-chan but dumber than asuka _________________

Finally finish my GTO collection
All the anime & 25 manga volumes.
I'm kinda hoping now that they continue the anime to finish the 2nd half of the manga......but I doubt it. Some bits and pieces of the 2nd half to the manga i wanna see as anime
Thinkin of starting a Tenjo Tenge collection on manga & watch the anime version of it _________________
