I just saw this drama in the wiki pages... I believe the only reason that people would watch it is because of the boys... Well, that's what I'm telling my husband hehehehehehe..
i did not like it that much..perhaps ive seen too many manga adaptations. it gives the same anime, cartoonish feel like Nodame, but unlike Nodame, the direction was bad that some scenes feel too random and irrelevant. the music was also weird, they picked the silly cartoony BGM's that i feel is too annoying. as a comedy, it also lacks a funny character that will be mainly the source of the humor(just like Nodame in NC, Yankumi in Gokusen..etc). supposed to be its Nakatsu, but he does not have that many funny scenes at all. the only positive thing is..Maki and Shun have chemistry,imho. overall, i give this a 5/10, the pilot, for me, is not as interesting as Papa to Musume or LIFE.

I have the same sentiments as yours, marienella.
My opinion (I never read the manga nor watch the Taiwanese version, so my opinion is based on the JAPANESE DRAMA only):

This drama lacks something. Most probably, yes, the directing and the music. Actually, its not that bad at all. Horikita Maki acts Ashiya Mizuki pretty good, I like that tomboy-ish acting, far better than her acting in Kurosagi. Oguri Shun did Sano pretty good either, COLD, but NOT HanazawaRui-cold... he managed to act a different character and got out of the Hanazawa Rui image. But the plot, the music, the directing are quite lame. They did some comic effects like Nodame Cantabile, but it didnt came out good (wrong timing). And just like marienella said, the musics not good. Overall, Hanadan, Nobuta and Nodame are alot better than this drama. If I remember, I'll watch the ep2 x)
It was bad. Really, really bad. Which was disappointing considering I was looking forward to this (considering Oguri Shun is in it, who I really liked in "Summer Snow"). The music, as other people mentioned, is terrible. And the "humour" is...just not that funny. Nakatsu's supposed to carry the bulk of the laughter, but the Nakatsu in the Japanese drama adaptation isn't entertaining at all. I much more liked the Taiwanese counterpart.
I think part of the problem with this drama is...too many "ikemen". There's so many people who aren't just nameless/faceless people in the background that it's overwhelming in the first episode. They should have focused more on building up the central characters (Mizuki, Sano, and Nakatsu) in the first episode, and left others to be introduced later on.
And the scenes were just...very, very corny. Especially what happened on the bench outside of the school.
I didn't really like the Taiwanese version of Hanakimi (except for their take on Nakatsu, which I thought was great), but just from episode 1, I'd say the Taiwanese version is up and far away the better version.

Just watched the 1st episode; I didn't think it was that bad. Yes, the comedic timing and background music can be better, but Maki was great and I didn't find it boring. It's based on a shojo manga just like Nodame so I don't mind some of the anime-like special effects (in fact I like them).
Also, I can't believe the Taiwan version can be any better; nowadays I'd rather spend time cleaning my bathroom than watching a Taiwanese drama.

If that's the way you think about taiwanese versions then you are missing a lot of good dramas.
Because I don't care if the dramas I watch are from here or there, the only thing I care if it's a good story. That's all I want from a drama and I don't even care what actors are in. I just want a good story.

I didn't like the 1st episode. I didn't like the idea that they changed almost everything of the manga, it wasn't loyal. I don't like the idea of change everything to show the audience something "new" because they know the story, I prefer something that is loyal to the original story.
And I think that the taiwanese version is the most loyal version (all their dramas are like that), that's why I like it. They did minor changes, but they didn't change a lot of things to the point of creating a new story.
I really wanted that the japanese version was good, because the manga is interesting and good. But if this is the way they're going to do it... Combined with the bad music, the not funny moments, ridiculous changes... I'm only going to watch it because of curiosity and not because is a good drama.
Of course, this is my opinion...Without the intention to offense anyone.

i couldn't agree more. i personally dont watch much taiwanese/chinese dramas but thats not because of the language and not because they arent good enough. i did watch Smiling Pasta and i loved it.

i havent read the manga before so i cant compare. the ep is so so. i am watching this only because of maki and shun and nothing more. i cant still judge this series since its not yet finished and i really dont care if they changed the whole thing from the manga since i dont read manga. well its just me. we have our own opinion and lets just respects each other's opinion so lets not bash each other and dont start flame here. peace everybody and enjoy posting.

Secondly, how can you say that the Japanese version changed everything when we're only at the 1st episode. Someone at D-Addicts had the exact opposite opinion and felt it's very loyal to the manga.
I watch a lot of Chinese dramas from HK, mainland China, and Taiwan but I've never been able to finish a Taiwanese drama (I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese). Whether they are good enough is a personal decision; something good enough for you may not be applicable to me. If you peruse some of the Chinese forums, even some people from Taiwan don't watch their own dramas and prefer those from Japan and HK (or sometimes even mainland China). I have absolutely no problem with the actors/actresses from Taiwan. But to say that Taiwanese dramas are the most loyal to the original novel/manga is certainly not true. There was a remake of a famous wuxia novel a few years ago and the alterations made so infuriated the author that the producers are banned from making any remakes of his novels.
Lastly, I don't have a problem w/ you disagreeing w/ my assessment on the drama. To each its own and I'll just leave it at that.

- What annoyed me of your previous post was how you talked in a despective way about taiwanese dramas. I understand that you don't like them, but you didn't need to say it in that way.
- Well I don't speak japanese, nor chinese nor korean. So I don't know if the people in Taiwan like their dramas or in Korea like their dramas or in Japan like their dramas. I really don't know. But all of them have dramas worth watching.
- I think I needed to be more specific, I was only talking about the taiwanese dramas based on japanese mangas that are very loyal to the story (except Meteor Garden 2).

And I said they changed a lot because in the manga most of the situations of the 1st episode were so different and a lot of them didn't even exist.

Oh, I LOVED LOVED the comic FX in NODAME CANTABILE. They were all hillarious, on the right timing and just enjoyable to watch! I wish I can see more comic-like dramas like Nodame^^
However, the use of comic FX in HanaKimi, wasn't on the right timing... or somehow, it was just not ....right. Sorry, don't know how to put it... But yeah, loved Maki's acting. Though, I still think her best acting was in the movie, ALWAYS (w/ Tsutsumi Shinichi). Maybe her HanaKimi's acting is 2nd best...pretty much on the same line with Nobuta... kana... As a person, and as an actress, I come to like Maki more^^
So... wait a minute. I'm kinda confused. Coz what I heard is somehow alot different from what minna-san said here.
I heard from a friend that the Japanese version of HanaKimi stay true to the manga, while the Taiwanese version changed alot. But according to this thread's posts, the Taiwanese version the faithful one to the manga?? honto?

Haha... wow, how this reminds me of my early days' interest. Wuxia heheh... I agree with you, concertmaster... on the WUXIA topic^^ taiwanese wuxia wa damee... x) esp. Jin Yong novels adaptations =P _________________

The Taiwan version followed rather closely to the story but the ending part is totally changed and became weird, heard that there's a sequel to it and I was wondering what more are they going to show? I hope they do not spoil it since the present Taiwan version is not too bad
