Yup.

After I found out that my cholesterol was high (260), I completely changed my diet, increasing my fruit, vegetable, and complex carbohydrate/fiber consumption and cutting down to near-zero my starch, sugar, and red meat consumption... Now my cholesterol level is at 140. Victory! Peace!

good for you! most people would turn to a lipitor cocktail. Shake Head
preventative medicine is the best choice. do it before you're in your 40's and suffering from chest pain.

Yeah, that's what my HMO doctor tried to do, but I asked for an alternative route...

I think that has to do with what they call the "glycemic index"

Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index

if anyone is interested in living a quality life in old age, i would recommend reading "the Okinawa program" by Drs. Wilcox and Dr. Makoto Suzuki.

this book is based on a 25 year study on okinawan diets. there is a higher percentage of centenarians there in comparison to other regions of the world, and it really makes you think there must be something other than genetics involved. healthy recipes, stretching exercises, and a month-long menu is included.

Ahhhhh no wonder! I've been watching Churasan, where the granny (oba) is often shown doing stetches and exersizes, and the food they eat is unlike anything I've seen in a Jdorama. The characters who visit the house in Okinawa also make comments about the food being different, and ultimately healthy. Goya, of course, comes to mind. Bittermelon plays a huge role in South Asian cooking as well.

It also helps that where they live is pretty much free from pollution and other city-related problems.

It's sad, really. I mean, if you go outside and look straight at the horizon, the sky is murky and brown. You really have to look directly up to realize that the sky is in fact blue. It's a really sobering look. Sweat

Wants to have a good air???
It's hard these days to get a good air...

However, there is a tricky way but not using any mask...

It is hard to make a good garden in most of the big cities.
There is not enough land to plant something...

Have you heard something called miniature garden???
Even a child can make it...
Simply buy a big aquarium, no matter size, and you can just plant little size plant in that aquarium...
It will make you fresher, and gives you some good air in the room, but beware, in the night put that out, you do not want to just fighting over air with your plants...

At least that is what I am doing back then, 3 weeks ago...

As expected, my sore throat didn't last more than a day, thanks to the warm salt water gargles... Victory! Peace!

But it did go uptown: I'm congested and my nose is running like a leaky faucet. bleh
