Special exception for the young lady here with the Nodame haircut. And myself... with the Nodame haircut. _________________

Alrighty, I've read pages 1-26 of this thread and stopped when talk of epi two started.

Just finished watching the first episode... This is gonna be a very complex and interesting drama...
Can't say that I'm surprised about the story, given all the trailers and hype.
Big props to Juri-chan for taking the challenge...

and I can't believe they made Ryo the bad guy, that's so sad
I think props should also go to Ryou. I mean, this is a pretty risky role to take considering he's a Johnny Boy. And I found him very effective this first episode, albeit I found "the scene" hard to watch as well. Of course, that means it was done very well.
The first episode made me think strongly of the movie Nana. It's the same concept with the story being told in past-tense, and how both protagonists are referring to - and talking to - each other. The character of Ruka is very similar to the Punk Nana, and the character of Michiru is nearly identical to the Barbie Nana. Of course, when I finished Nana, the first thing I said was "this is the first time I wished two female characters would end up together". I hope Last Friends steps up to the plate.
I take my hat off to Juri-chan. She's completely captivated. I mean, I've also enjoyed her acting, but I never got into it. Part of that is my own stubbornness. I usually stay away from characters people become instantly obsessed with as an instinctive reaction. But I can't deny her any longer. She's brilliant and I think Ruka will be her crowning role.
Opinion so far? I love it. The drama is very promising and I really REALLY hope it doesn't drown in the gutter. _________________

This'll be fun to watch how you see it, since you're seeing it several weeks after we've discussed each episode at length - I'm curious if you'll experience a similar process _________________

I'm not going to read any of the posts until after I've watched the appropriate episode, so you'll get my honest, untainted opinions. _________________

The screenwriter for Last Friends happens to have done the NANA movies.
The show gets progressively more NANA-ish with each episode (if you read the manga and/or seen the second movie).
I guess it's human nature. I mean, the mood called for it in Episode 4, but of course it wouldn't in 5 -- unless it were coming from Michiru, it seems. As someone who has snapped at people for similar incidents, I can totally understand why Ruka snapped at Takeru at the end of the episode. Really, he's a nice guy... but what good would him putting his arm around her this next time do? It won't help her feel any better, because the source of her feeling bad at that moment was Michiru not being strong, and Ruka's inability to help her. A *pat pat* coming from anyone would come off patronizing.

Yeah, it's a risky role for a JE Boy, but I've yet to see any dimensionality in this character at all... He might as well be an animated cardboard cut out... Or is he already?

I have yet to watch Nana.

I guess that'd be me.

At a mere 21, she's got a whole lot more in the tank.

Seconded.
I read with rolling eyes as some fangirls start squealing and saying things like "I don't mind being DVed by Sousuke!" or "Michiru deserves it because she's a bitch" etc etc. It saddened me how ignorant and shallow these 'children' are, mocking the suffering of those real victims. _________________

What bunch of idiots...
I hope you gave them a verbal thrashing on how stupid their remarks were.

And people ask why we despise (brain dead) fangirls...
It's a good thing. I love NANA.. I think the first movie was great, but the second wasn't executed as well. The story, however, is amazing (up until the recent chapters of the manga). *thumbs up*
^ I absolutely can't stand that people say Michiru deserves all the DV she puts up with. @_@

Well I did rant in my blog about it, or whenever I come across one brainless comment like this. It's also kinda depressing to know that some of these Ryo-obsessed fangirls are in my (Kanjani8) fandom. Imagine putting up with these kids from time to time. *Damn I sound like an obachan there when I'm not even 30 yet!*
Back to the topic, I think Episode 5 should be somewhat a highlight of Sousuke's overbearing possessiveness and I hope to see more of Takeru and Eri in Episode 6.
And oh yeah this is totally random, but Juri-chan has officially become my most favourite actress as of current! _________________

I second that - I finished ep 5 and the male characters need some urgent fleshing out.
