---------------------------------------------------------
(Source: Entame) Osaka Sports reported that the decision to make a movie-version of popular J-Dorama "Last Friends" has been made! The dorama's themes are concerned with modern-day social problems like child abuse, domestic violence and homosexuality, and started out with a viewer's rating of 13.9% (for the first episode) and peaked at 20.7% in the second-last episode last week, pulling ahead of KimuTaku's CHANGE. (The last episode airs tonight.)
Related personnel commented that "nobody had thought that Last Friends would be able to rake in higher viewer's ratings than KimuTaku's CHANGE. Although the 19th (of June) was meant to be the last episode, we suddenly had a phone call asking us to add on a special episode/version of Last Friends, in the way that KimuTaku's HERO was made into a movie."
Apparently plans for the movie are already underway. Following in the steps of "Journey to the West" and "HERO", it's been said that the transition from the small-screen to the big-screen has rarely seen failure.

I watched the episode without subs, and I have to agree, it does come off as anticlimactic.

I'll need to re-watch it again just for Ruka and Takeru's dialog... I've no interest in any of Michiru's dialog: her character nearly makes me as sick as Sosuke.
I felt sorry for Michiru at the beginning, but I just found her to have matured/evolved very little throughout the drama... She's just pathetic.

Watched ep 11 without subs.. Couldn't understand much of the dialogs.. But I'm glad that the series is over! Even thinking whether to watch it with subs, but might as well do to understand Ruka and Takeru's dialog as bmw said...
The director/writer tried to squeeze in everything into the final ep to finish it off. Overall rating of the series would be 6.5 - 7 for me (and that too only because of the performances of Juri chan & Eita).

Seems that everyone here at J-D is very critical of this drama, while over at D-Addcits, people are fawning over it like it was the best thing since sliced bread. |
I wonder what they see about the show that most of us here don't. I understand we all got different perspectives on it, but the fact it seems like we're on one end while people on D-Addicts are on the opposite is interesting. I'll have to read through all those posts on D-Addicts to get some idea

My perception is that it's VERY fangirl-ish over there: they're totally enamored with the semi/pseudo-lesbian relationship... To the point where they're overlooking all the story flaws... Along with all the fantasizing...
I suppose you could say were the pessimists here and they're the optimists over there...

Hmm.. I also have not followed the thread over at d-addicts.. But from what I read, the guys/gals here are more demanding! Given the cast at hand, the production team of Last Friends did an ok-ish kind of job and nothing more!

There have been some who have criticized the drama (aside from me) and have been typically smacked down... As being too critical.

Certainly they are more forgiving of the flaws than we are it seems. I skimmed through the last three pages of the discussion at D-Addicts and it looks like while most point out some flaws, they put the Ruka-Takeru relationship as the positive which makes the drama good in their eyes. That's only the last three pages, so obviously that's not going to give a good idea of the overall consensus there. I do agree that the Ruka-Takeru relationship is what kept this drama up, but I don't agree that's it so much a positive that it overrides all the negatives.
