Getting ready to watch Episode 4... Without subs.
I just skimmed through the episode without subs, but it appears I'm missing quite a lot since there are quite a few conversations going, but not much actions. Michiru's really attached to Sousuke
I believe I read in the D-Addicts subs thread that the subs for this episode were gonna be slow coming out from everyone
Finals
Oh well.
I just finished Episode 4.
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:
It's only four episodes in, but I'm unequivocally tired of the love/hate/S&M relationship between Michiru and Sosuke... Just kill each other so we can focus on the other more interesting characters.
Ruka seems to be the only "man" in the group, willing to stand up to that loon Sosuke... I hope she's the one who kills this nutjob... In the cruelest, most unusual fashion possible.

You know what's funny.. I kinda thought about that too...
Ruka gets crazy sex change operation and gets with Michiru, and Takeru 'donates' the X chromosomes... and gets jealous of Ruka, kills her and goes to jail. Thus, Michiru is alone raising her little Sousuke.
Oh yeah.. and Eri comes over to my place and we get really drunk (she seems to be good with that)
I kind of have the nagging feeling that Sousuke is the one that will die in the end.Or,Sousuke kills Ruka and gets sent to jail or would it be the other way round? _________________

lol you are such a hater.
At least we found out more about sousuke's past now. I can see why they cling to each other so much, although Michiru really just needs to make up her mind already.

Unlikely, since early in Episode 1 Michiru is writing a letter to Ruka... Or is that a red herring?

While it's not a replacement for subtitles by any means, I checked Garten's Memento anime/drama blog and he's been posting summaries about Last Friends. Being summaries they will contain spoilers, but for those who want an idea of what's going on in an episode while waiting for subs the Memento blog is a nice place to check out.

A red herring is an intentionally misleading plot point in a story that leads the consumer to believe a certain event will occur, but the event never occurs.
Media creators use red herrings to steer the consumer away from the actual story by giving the satisfaction of thinking they know what's going on, when really, they're completely wrong.
An example is Michiru saying "that preventable death" and then talking about how Ruka was gone. The screenwriter is using your automatic connection of those two discreet items to mislead you to believe that Ruka is dead and that it was preventable. It isn't necessarily a red herring yet: we'd have to get to the end and realize that Ruka's not dead. _________________

On a side note, that blog so happens to be where I found out about Nodame Cantabile
He is ridiculously thorough isn't he? I remember looking at his site when I was at the end of Nodame. Almost too thorough ;-) And perhaps slightly fanboyish in his reviewing/overviewing style.
But the quality of the screencaps (and sheer numbers) and plot recitation is impressive. _________________

Ryo nothwithstanding, how can you not hate his character, Sosuke?
So far, Sosuke has no redeeming values aside from the job with child services or whatever... And since they've barely even touched on that, he might be lousy at his job for all we know...

I agree wholeheartedly... I stopped reading his stuff because it was just too much, like some kinda extended college dissertation.

The plot recitation is definitely impressive, more so since I'm trying to understand what's going on in a particular show without subs. Somehow I completely forgot about checking out his blog for Last Friends considering he is a big Juri-chan fan, even if he refuses to admit it

I don't hate him either. I'm obviously against the abusive treatment.. but I'm not sure he himself understands it. I think that many people in that position, while utterly reprehensible, are mostly unaware of why they are acting that way. At least that accounted for a decent part of my experience in interacting with them while I worked as a DV volunteer.
I also think he has some good qualities to him too - he likes to take care of Michiru most of the time. He cooks for her and bought the lamp for her when he broke it. Sure, its typical honeymoon cycle DV behavior, but it shows he cares for her and is conflicted.
Also, I personally try to avoid hating anyone...
There was this girl at law school, however... she, I hated. No redeeming qualities, total bitch, awful person. She did everything she could to undermine others and laughed when the professors were mean to people. There were like 4 or 5 classes, I wanted to go over any strangle her. _________________

Haven't read his stuff, but there's a similar member in D-addicts commenting on Last Friends named Belleza. She's either a psychologist or a film analyst of some type. It's nuts

Had I not seen the preview for episode 5, I would be inclined to agree with you. After all, the reason why he's so crazy is because he just wants Michiru to himself. But...

I don't think you can actually rape someone and not be aware that you're hurting them. After I saw that in the preview, if indeed it does happen all the way, I'm throwing all "He's conflicted" garbage out the window.
